  • SIU-E vs. Bradley at Carver Arena, Wednesday

SIU-E is coming off a BIG win in an exhibition game at Nebraska on Saturday.
The game Wednesday is their first regular season game.

At Nebraska, the SIU-E Cougars held the Cornhuskers to only 20% shooting in the first half and 29% overall.
They feature Ex-Illinois high school legend, Marty Simmons as head coach, and they have a fine shooting guard, Ty Johnson who scored 19 against Nebraska.

SIU-E is the #3 D-II team in preseason polls, and their only other exhibition game was a 76-57 loss at Assembly Hall in Champaign to the Illini.

In that game Ty Johnson led the Cougars with 13 points but he had 8 turnovers.

The Cougars roster also includes one of Andrew Warren's high school teammates from Indianapolis Brebeuf, freshman Edmonn Maul. Most of the rest of their roster includes Springfield and Edwardsville area kids.

Last season, BU downed SIU-E on 11/03/05, 74-62.
Patrick O'Bryant played in the exhibition game, but later BU was penalized because of it.
PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley sophomore center Patrick O'Bryant (Blaine, Minn./Blaine H.S.) led a balanced attack with 14 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots and the Braves steadily pulled away for a 74-62 exhibition victory versus NCAA Division II Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in the preseason opener for both teams Thursday night at Robertson Memorial Fieldhouse.

    Here's a little more:

SIU-E last season was 25-8, 8-3 on the road.
They advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA DII Playoffs for the first time ever, and return FOUR starters, including Preseason All America Honorable Mention J. B. Jones and leading scorer from 2005-2006, Ty Johnson.

As a group, they have their top three scorers back (Johnson, Jones, Hardiek) and 7 of their top 9 scorers returning.

What the heck? They played twice as many home games as road games?

Anyway, I have a feeling this may be closer than the DePaul game. But Bradley should still win pretty easily.

Edmonn took a redshirt year for SIU-E.

          Pregame story in Belleville paper.
SIU-E is now ranked #3 in Div II.
I like Marty Simmons' reference to the Bradley fans--
Braves fans are rabid, and many sit extremely close to the court.--

I thought the ones close to the court were the "gray hairs" that needed to be prodded to become rabid?

No no no, you see, I think he meant to use an "or" not an "an". Braves fans are rabid, or sit extremely close to the court. Also, I don't know that I appreciate being referred to as rabid, I don't foam from the mouth.
