  • MAC conference changes postseason tournament format

The MAC, which hs difficulty getting more than 1 team into the NCAA tournament most years, has changed their conference tournament to give a byes to the #1 and #2 seeds all the way to the semifinals,. The #3 and #4 seeds will start play in the quarterfinal round.
The MAC, which has 2 divisions, will also no longer automatically reward a top 2 seed to the division winners. Teams will be seeded based on conference record, regardless of their place in their division ??” though no division champion will be seeded lower than fourth.
No. 1 and 2 seeds will earn bye straight to semifinals. Seeds 3 and 4, begin in quarterfinals. Teams seeded 5-12 will have to play an additional two games.

Not a bad idea, but that won't necessarily increase the number of bids from their conference. But it will help assure the best team makes the tourney in more years than has been the case recently in the MAC.
