Manual opened the season last night beating Macomb in the Canton Tournament 68-39...
Jeff White 12 pts, Jacoby Roddy 10, AJ Riley 12, Quenton Lowe 17...
    and Macomb had 30 turnovers.
White had 8 steals but Manual didn't shoot well from outside going 1-9 (11%) from 3-pt...and cleaned up on transition and pts off turnovers

Note that Manual is Class 3A, as is Canton - but the other two schools in this tourney Illini Central & Macomb are 1A and 2A respectively...so Manual will not likely get tested this week...

      Not so fast

Manual will be tested this week as they play Chicago Marshall on Saturday who has blown everyone out in Canton this week.

        missed the boat

Guess Coach Mo missed out on former Manual player Lawrence Alexander who is now the starting pg as a freshman at NDSU. Lawrence was the leading scorer agains WIU last night and had a monster dunk for a and 1. He finished with 16 points and 4 assists as well. The Manual coaches had practically begged Molinari to offer him but it never happened. Now he gets to pay for that mistake for 4 years.

Probably not, but WIU won last night no matter what kind of game Lawrence had. Hope he has a great season.

                wow

Never amazes me how people miss the point...the point is not whether WIU won..though when they do win it is kind of a big deal being that it happens rarely and they play against poor competition..though Eureka College is on the schedule for them this year so that will be another win...its the fact that Lawrence wanted to play for Western Illinois badly and was spurned..and he was the leading scorer in the game, but WIU won...woohoo. Also the freshman they took over Lawrence never sniffed the court last night.

. Coaches make mistake in recruiting all the time. I'm just happy Lawrence is getting a chance to play somewhere and get his education. If playing against WIU gives him extra incentive, good. Freshmen have 4 years to produce. I'd wait awhile before belittling another player.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee won at DePaul last night 87-76.
Paris Gulley started for the 3rd game in a row and was one of the stars of the game. He played 37 minutes, had 19 points and 4 rebounds, and he was 5-5 from three.

Milwaukee starts a lineup that includes 4 transfers- 2 juco transfers (Ryan Allen and Paris Gulley), and 2 transfers from MVC teams James Haarsma and Kaylon Williams).

DePaul fans are getting restless - as routinely 3 of their starting five are giving them very little...

I had the chance to watch Michael Berg of Midwest Central play last night -- the kid is very good...

He pretty much single-handedly carried his team to a win over Peoria Christian HS 57-55...
Berg finished with 40 points and 14 rebounds easily accounting for well over half of his entire team's production in every area...

He's kind of a 6-6 (maybe 6-5) version of Carlton Fay, Max Bielfeldt, or even Doug McDermott - extremely efficient inside and outside - and what really hurts the kid is that he's basically all alone on that roster - they really have little more than Berg....
no other player on the entire MWC roster is even over about 5-9 and most are even way smaller. And I don't mean to be too disrespectful but a few of even their other starters not only wouldn't start for many other HS teams - they might not even play much at JHS level --
Only three other kids on the squad even scored besides Berg, and Berg could have probably done even more except for OBVIOUS reasons he played pretty laid back for the first 3 quarters - because he tried like crazy to avoid picking up fouls -- he's their whole team and gets tripled and quadruple-teamed constantly and had he even gone out for a few minutes for fouls, the game would be over - but he ramps it up a bit in the 4th quarter and turned a 10 pt deficit into a lead and a win.

He is verbaled to Wheaton College but a source told me last night that he has not signed there and is hearing from other schools.
