It appears to me as if the Georgetown player was a little aggressive in the back court at first to retain possession of the ball. Once he got possession, another Chinese guy came at him with a hard foul which caused the Georgetown player to react. The two players react and the Georgetown player runs away from a possible confrontation. My guess is that initially, part of this is a result of a language barrier between the players. The rest is teammate protecting teammate with the Chinese guys going after the Georgetown guys with numbers. From the video, the Chinese players look to be the thugs. Maybe another video will surface sometime. jmho
    Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

I can see why the chinese took the pictures off their site.
They, the chinese were clearly the instigators, attacking and punching US players, chasing US players, wielding and throwing chairs. Why would anyone want to go to china. A pathetic display of sportsmanship by the chinese. We should have stiffed them on the one trillion, our spenders and tax payers have built their country...we've built almost every country. I support US players.

        Tied @ 40 4 minutes into the 3rd quarter. http://twitter.com/#!/HoyasinChina/status/104144335691460608 Halftime show: http://yfrog.com/hsta4llzj

Pretty interesting read from a Hoya fan. Sounds pretty similar to what happened in the video. He said there were close to 50 fouls against Georgetown, and that a Chinese player got in the face of JT3.

I wonder how the NCAA will handle these hoodlums?!?!?!

China will likely handle their thugs and the US needs to handle theirs..
wonder if the Chinese kids' families will ever hear from them again

Does anyone feel that altercations in US basketball are completely different from other parts of the world?

This is not the first time I have seen this happen in foreign games. Wasn't there an even bigger brawl last year somewhere?

And what is the deal with foreigners and KICKING? It happens in soccer fights and apparently fights like these? In America if someone got punched on the floor they would be separated and maybe a few bench players rush in to STOP the fight. It was first nature for the entire Chinese team to ambush the kid. Disturbing.

It's not like in the U.S. where there might be pushing and shoving or a few punches, those Chinese players rushed the court instantly and were stomping Hoya players.
I'm with you. I'd love to hurl insults at Gtown, but this incident was far more China's fault. Teams apparently need to be very careful who they play internationally.

Way to jump to conclusions before seeing video.

FWIW it does look like first - we miss the whole first 30 minutes of the game and don't know how the action might have set the stage..
then on one single play where the two players get their legs tangled in the backcourt going for the loose ball,
the kicking and fighting begins - and at least a dozen Chinese players were the frist ones to race to the fight and join in.
That left the initial Georgetown player pretty helpless when he was being mobbed by a dozen opponents...
and undoubtedly the Chinese guys were the greater thugs ..ganging up and pummelling Hoya players...

The Georgetown players then came running in and it was about equal after that...so maybe a little more blame on the Chinese but absolutely
NO excuse for the Hoyas picking up chairs and swinging fists as they did...
JTIII did whatever he could and issued a nice statement but I still feel so strongly that in game fights must be deterred and very severe penalties must be doled out.
I discount any whining about the Chinese guys starting it because that's virtually never a consideration when BOTH teams are fighting as they did.
Also on the extreme classless list are those Cjhinese fans who threw objects at the players.

One really funny thing - just about a minute into that first video - a uniformed security guard can be seen rushing AWAY from all the fighting and apparently
trying to get out of the arena!! LOL

The Bayi Rockets do have one ex-NBA player - Wang ZhiZhi

One takeaway...... American players are SO into posturing and machismo when it comes to these sports fights......be it basketball, baseball, or football...... it's all about NOT being disrespected in front of fans and cameras. To many foreign players a fight means a FIGHT...... No messing around. I think in this case the Georgetown players unknowingly bit off more than they could chew.

Another new video of this brawl emerges -- much clearer and from a better angle -

                        and anyone recall this??
Just last fall a Chinese team brawled with a Brazilian team --
China's gonna get the moniker "Basketbrawl capital of the world"
This is the game where American Bob Donewald, Jr. (son of the "legendary" ISU coach)
was the head coach of the Chinese team involved.
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Donewald, Jr. has been in the news lately for some very vocal criticism of Chinese basketball officials...
China's head coach, Bob Donewald, blasted the event organizers and the media after a failed campaign at the 2011 Stankovic Continental Cup.

he's also been a bit arrogant and rude to reporters..
BEIJING - China's determination to win the Asia Championship suffered a huge blow on Tuesday when Wang Shipeng, captain of the national basketball squad, suffered a wrist fracture during a tune-up match against Australia and could miss the Sept 15-25 continental tournament in Wuhan, Hubei province.

"Chinese basketball fans slammed Bayi, which is owned by China's military, for its part in the brawl that forced the cancellation of a match intended to promote U.S.-China goodwill during Biden's visit."

"It was the latest instance of on-court fighting by China, whose players have been fined tens of thousands of dollars by the world and Asian federations for scrapping with opponents."

Why was everyone so quick to blame the Americans at the start of this thread?
What part of illegal don't you understand?

you think the Americans are completely innocent?
One report said Georgetown center Moses Ayegba reportedly went after several Chinese players using a chair as a weapon.

If attacked and outnumbered by players wielding chairs and feet I would have done the same. You can stand there and take it tornado...... not me!
