  • BS ?

Interesting article and title in today's PJStar.

The title is "MVC leader believes he sees B.S. on CBS"

I thought "BS" was one of those terms that reputable papers just don't use, especially in a title of an article.
In addition, the actual quotes from Doug Elgin were quite polite and never once used the disrespectful term, "BS".

So what? I like it, because it really puts into perspective just what Nantz and Packer were spewing.

Gary Williams is miffed that Arizona & Wisconsin both got in and he didn't!

      Here is the quote:
"Terrapins coach Gary Williams was miffed to see Wisconsin (19-11) and Arizona (19-12) make it.

"Interesting. What makes them better than us? I don't know," Williams said. "For whatever reason, our 19-12 wasn't as good as Arizona's record or Wisconsin's record."

Hey Gary---here is your answer right from selection committee chairman, Craig Littlepage:
"If there's a message, the larger schools, the larger conferences, really do have a choice on who they play in nonconference," said selection committee chairman Craig Littlepage, the athletic director at Virginia."

Wisconsin finished 4th in the nation's BEST conference, and played a non-conference schedule that was 26th going 10-3.

Arizona finished 4th in the Pac 10, played the #1 nonconference schedule in the nation, and finshed 7-4 in non-con.

Maryland finished 6th in their conference, had a 49 RPI and a #64 non-con SOS, was only 9-3 in non-con play, but had 12 losses total. Plus hge shot off his mouth too much in the week leading up to selection Sunday!

I like GW. He did not bad mouth the mid-majors. He went after some biggies at least. He also is one to schedule schools in his region and give them a chance to play them. I'd like to see Illinois schedule schools close to them like ISU, Bradley, Depaul, Loyola and SIU. They do not and would prefer not to. Maryland played American, GW, Temple and a host of other schools that are 2 hours or less from them.

Point taken! but he was trying to protect his turf and doing his job. He is not right now blaming the mids for not getting in. GW is one who will play anyone and that was the point I was trying to make. I'd like our MVC coaches to call out those BCS schools that will not schedule us. I bet Bruce Webber would be on the list! There are a few BCS coaches that will play anyone anywhere. I'm not sure how NIU gets to play U of Iowa and Iowa State. Does the state legislate it?
