  • NCAA to get strict with schools with poor academic performance

The NCAA Board of Directors passed a new measure that would ban teams with poor academic performance from participating in the postseason-

I think this a good measure and long overdue. Until now, the measures the NCAA has taken to try to enforce minimum academic standards for student athletes just haven't achieved much improvement. This postseason ban idea should help.

It seems we have heard this exact phrase numerous times before coming from NCAA people..

"It's time to get strict with schools who have poor academic performance"
    and..
"The academics have unfortunately taken a back seat to athletics, and it's time we set more rigid academic standards
or else the players will be ineligible and teams will be penalized"

BUT -- just when teams like Tennessee and Maryland get 870's on their APR's they get a waiver...
while a mid-major team like Toledo has the same numbers, guess what?? They get hit with a hard, 3-scholarship loss, forcing one of their rostered players to transfer!

BTW -- I like Cuonzo Martin but his first three years at Missouri State brought APR's of 885, 865, and 914 -- ALL very far under the absolute minimum of 925 -- and yet he lost only one scholarship, one time, in one year...now moves on to Tennessee....
