I don't like the idea because the AD says it's to create a greater student interest in the men's basketball program, while also saying things like "We don't want to limit people's ability to see games".

Well......that's exactly what you're doing when you have around 7,000 season ticket holders and only 2,850 tickets available to the public!
So you are saying that you do not like this idea because the school is taking a chance in trying to get the student population more involved at the expense of season ticket holders. It has nothing to do with taking you out of your game routine? I know I would be slightly pissed off if I was in your shoes.

I for one believe they are doing the right thing because they are trying to enhance the students experience at BU. I wonder what the participation/donation rate is for those alumni that were in school during the good years compared to the years when the team was average add to that the years when the college experience had high marks.

I don't go to every single non-conference game anyways, so it's not taking me out of any game routine. I will be "slightly pissed" if I am able to attend that game and unable to purchase a ticket. THAT'S why I don't agree with the whole idea.....because BU knows there is more demand than 2,850 people to attend a Bradley game, especially when the AD is saying "We don't want to limit people's ability to see games".

I honestly don't think this one game is going to change anything as far as student interest in any other home games. We have two home games in the six days following the RC game, so I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Finally someone on the Forum who understands me!

Just thought I'd take the financial argument to BU playing on campus to its (il)logical conclusion.

I doubt playing in the RC will make a difference in long term student interest/attendance in BU MBB. No amount of lipstick can make a pig attractive.

If BU is hurting that badly financially playing 'dogs' in the PCC that it has to play a game or two in the RC, BU will just have to get better and schedule better home opponents.

I wonder if this is also part of the price to pay for BU being able to afford to settle the JL lawsuit!

I still think this is somehow part of a BU plan to sell some additional PSL's for the RC to help pay for it, and possibly, hoping the payers of the RC PSL's actually show up for the women's sports played at the RC....

Course, I also believe in UFO's, although not necessarily alien beings, and that Congress deserves their "golden collar" job salaries, private pension and health care programs, and other perks, that won't be touched in the balance the budget crisis, cause they aren't greedy senior citizens.

I am cooling off, in the mountains of the great state of Arizona. Think all the students who actually show up could fit in that shed?

That doesn't mean "the demand to be profitable" will be there for that game or there will be "a huge demand for a ticket", which are the statements I was responding to. Yet, it is an exhibition game and is one of the 16 games that are part of the Carver Arena season ticket package.

lol... It does bear a closer resemblance to the old on-campus stadium though.

BU's contract agreement with the Civic Center REQUIRES a certain number of games be held there -- so this one is AT Carver for that reason.

While I think it is a good idea to bring a game on campus for the students, I would like to know HOW the Athletic Department plans to reach out to the students. Maybe some students on the board can inform us about the promotions when they start.... (if there are any) However, I do not have much faith in the department to market this in a way to interest the students. jmho

Maybe they can take each one, besides the Rea Sea members, by the hand and show them where the gym is and tell them this is where the game will be.

Kirk Wessler on the decision to play----

IMO, the BU Athletic Dept. ( MC, et al) is wrong in their decision.

First of all, the students will not turn out as expected. Students will come when we have a winner and something other than a last place MVC team with a 9 year record of mediocrity.

All this will do is piss off a number of loyal fans. Our AD still does not understand(or accept) that BUs traditional. year-in,year-out fan base is the city of Peoria.

Recent moves by the BU Ath. Dept seem to indicate a high priority for fund raising even at the expense of ordinary fans, imo.

Emphasis is on major $$ giving societies. Priority access to tickets at RC can only be had thru a larger donation.

Social events seem to be geared toward big donors rather than less costly events that turnout large numbers of fans.

The Braves Club Room at Carver is simply a curtained off section that offers free popcorn. The Ath. Dept seem to have no interest at all in upgrading or improving this.

Bradley Basketball used to be fun---Now it is less so,IMO.

Not true. You must not have tried visiting the Braves Club Room this past year, because if you had, you would have known that prior to last season, the Braves Club Room was re-located to the Lexus Room at Carver Arena. That is a nice area for the Braves Club people, not just a curtained off section. So they do have interest in improving and upgrading the Braves Club.

Braves Club members (Bronze level and above) attending men's basketball games will be able to enjoy free popcorn, coffee and soda in the Braves Club Room, which has been relocated inside the Lexus Room located at the top of the escalator in the main lobby at Carver Arena, before all men's basketball home contests beginning with Friday's season opener against Texas A&M Kingsville.

Sounds eerily similar to the approach the Athletic Department has taken in the past. We need new ideas that are far more inclusive!

                              Kirk Wessler on th decision---

Coach---I beg to differ. You are partially right and I am partially right. Here's why.

The Lexus room is only open before the game which means that you would miss warm-ups etc. if one went there.

The half time room which gets the most attendance traditionally is the bad, curtained off area in the lobby.

The Lexus room was tried several years ago and was unsatisfactory because it is quite removed from the rest of the arena and is a very long walk, Attendance was very poor. By the time one reached the room and got a drink & popcorn, you had to rush back so you wouldn't miss the start of the 2nd half!

Once one left the arena, you had to hang on to your ticket stub for re-entry.
The bad location of the Lexus room was such a pain in the butt that it was ultimately closed.

IMO, the lexus room was not successful and is not a good solution to a Braves Club room, IMO.

Somehow, the AD need to get this problem handled with the CC.

I went a handful of times in the spring and it was a curtained off room still...

(Though I don't agree BU doesn't care about average donors).
