I just hope the MVC can get better schedules vs top teams, at home too, the old fashioned way.....

Improve the MVC Team's programs and improve MVC Conference RPI.

Upgrade coaching and recruiting at MVC Schools....Take advantage of scandals/penalities at BCS schools programs..

Make wins over MVC Teams more beneficial to BCS Teams, and BCS Teams losses to MVC Teams less of a downside....

Most are hoping(assuming) this will change with the new AD. It was widely known that Zenger focused 95% of his attention on football. Friedman has already made comments that he will be active in the scheduling of MBB. Hopefully its not just "corporate speak" and will fix the problem...

The scenario was that Iowa and Iowa State hadn't played each other in football for about 40 years (this was in the 70's). The state legislature threatened to force them to play each other in football, but the two sides agreed to a series before that was necessary.

So that part is true. But, it never had anything to do with basketball, and Drake and UNI were never part of the proposed legislation.

Quick fact: Drake has played Iowa State more than they've played any other opponent in history (basketball). When I was a student at Drake (mid-late 70's), DU actually played 2 games each season against both Iowa and Iowa State (home and home).
LOL! Sorry DUBulldog - I don't mean any harm... I just thought that was all funny.

That "article" is from a Missouri State fan who probably picked up that urban legend on VT. As you well know, the "drive-by media" rarely fact check.

I'd be curious to see any DMR article that mentions this. Of course, the quality at the DMR these days is so horrible, that it wouldn't surprise me. I've actually seen the DMR quote somebody as saying "should of" instead of "should've".

I've challenged people on the Internet for almost 20 years now......if it's state legislated, show me the law. After all, if it's a law, it should be pretty easy to find. Nobody has yet.

But, the Internet Myth won't die. And, unfortunately, the more it gets repeated, the more "evidence" there is to back it up.

You won't see me complaining about ISU's sked.

Cancun is going to be a blast!

All 4 D1 Iowa schools have been members of the Missouri Valley Conference.
Drake has been in the MVC from 1907 until the present (except for the 5 years from 1951-1956)
Northern Iowa has been a member from 1991-present
Iowa was a member for only 1 year 1907-1908
Iowa State was a member from 1907-1928
The number games between Drake and Iowa State include a bunch of games between 1907-1928 when they were both MVC members.

Drake left the MVC during those years due to the "Johnny Bright Incident" (google it). There was one other MVC school that showed great support to Drake by also briefly leaving the conference.......Bradley University.

I've always like BU (1st college b-ball game I ever saw involved BU), and that's one more reason to like them.

Thanks for the history lesson. I had no idea this happened and am glad BU reacted the way they did and I would not mind learning more about the incident and the aftermath.

Thank you for mentioning this. I had never heard about this incident before just now. Very interesting to say the least.
