LSU big man with immediate eligibility is transferring

Long Beach does have almost all the best players returning - including their SIX biggest guys 6-8 and bigger!
BUT -- their conference will surely be a 1-bid conference like they were last year when UC-Santa Barbara knocked off LBSU and still got a 15-seed!
So -- if LBSU slips just a bit they don't get in even with 22 wins.

SDSU meanwhile loses their four biggest players 6-7, 6-9, 6-9, and 6-11 (barring a 6th year waiver for Carlwell)...but they still have talent

I had figured the teams with the loaded front courts would fall down Green's list because of the limited options for him to get playing time...
WSU also returns a lot of their post players -- so Green surely knows that...

What is surprising -- that even some of the most incredibly obscure big men that are available this late are getting tons of attention--
guys like Stan Simpson, Moussa Gueye, Kiel Turpin, Cheir Ajou, Nikola Cerina, Robert Goff, even Max Bielfeldt are getting BCS offers....so why isn't Green?

Seriously, he's the only regular post player coming back, and he has yet to prove he can stay out of foul trouble long enough to get 20 minutes. (I am hopeful, however.)

After Stutz we have Orukpe, juco newcomer Hall and freshman White. Hall and White have the potential to be significant contributors, but they are still newcomers.

Based on everything that's been said about Green's important factors (academic program, playing time and NCAA tournament chances) the case can be made that WSU gives him the best balance of the three.

My understanding is that SDSU only has 8 healthy scholarship players this year. The PT will be there, but if they aren't strong, their conference may not be either, meaning they will have to win their league tournament. Long Beach returns so much that Green won't be able to crack their starting lineup and may struggle to see significant minutes. I don't see IU making the tournament this year. They may sniff the bubble, though. WSU has the schedule to build a solid OOC resume and I think the top of the MVC (WSU, CU, InSU) will be strong enough that two NCAA teams is a reasonable expectation.

We will find out sometime today where Green will go.

well -- this guy Garrett Green after taking his visits and saying every day this week that he'd announce his decision on Friday -- kinda lied --
he's gone silent and has not announced anything...

What do you make of kids who state emphatically that they will make their decision and announce it even giving a specific time and date...
then they reneg and don't....

Anyone remember Markus Crider?? He's a kid Bradley was pursuing who stated plainly he'd announce his decision last week - but last week came and went and still no announcement -- hmmm...maybe time to forget these guys and move on -- or are schools like Indiana & Wichita State that desperate to allow themselves to be played by the kids...

My guess is that Green has already made his decision but wants to wait and play the game to get the biggest internet audience..

It's being reported on an Indiana board that Green has decided to transfer to Indiana.

Garrett Green the big man friom LSU who couldn't find any playing time even in his 5th year there -- is still taking visits...but since Indiana is so incredibly desperate for a big man, they are hounding the guy the hardest..

Currently Green is visiting a couple California schools including San Diego State and will complete his visits at Wichita State today.
He tweets that he will decide Friday but it appears, since he has just one year to play, that he'll go to who promises the most playing time.

BUT -- it is clear the kid knows you can't always trust college coaches.....and have to be careful buying into everything they say...

tornado, Green did say he would make his choice on August 5. He didn't say he would announce it. Even so, I won't begrudge a kid if it comes down to the wire and he feels he needs to sleep on it another day.

To complicate matters his phone quit on him on Friday and didn't get a new one until Saturday.

I think what probably happened is that he called all the coaches, or at least those he eliminated, on Friday. WSU coaches then informed Anacreon there was still a spot for him and he jumped on it Saturday. It could have been in the reverse and when Anacreon committed the coaches called Green and said thanks, but we're full now. Hard to tell.

The final decision has come down and Brian Carlwell has been denied a 6th year waiver

-he played his freshman year in 2006-2007 at Illniois but the injury suffered in the car accident on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007 ended his freshman year, after playing in 26 games.

-He attempted to play in 2007-2008, his sophomore year but after 3 games he gave up due to disability from the accident

-Carlwell then waited out the rest of 2007-2008 and decided in June 2008 to leave Illinois and
transfer to San Diego State - but had to sit out another full year and was not eligible until fall of 2009.

-in 2009-2010 Carlwell played 34 games for SDSU averaging 4.7 ppg

-in 2010-2011 he played in 37 games for SDSU averaging 3.8 ppg.

thus he has spent 5 years and played in four different seasons - appearing in a total of 100 games as both an Illini & Aztec.
Had he stayed at Illinois, and missed most of 2007-2008 and all of 2008-2009, then almost certainly NCAA would have granted the 6th year waiver but his voluntary choice to transfer was likely the negating factor.
