Zach McAllister's first MAJOR LEAGUE outing

Chilicothe's Zach McAllister had his first major league start with Cleveland tonight..

He started against the Toronto Bluejays...and didn't do all that terribly bad...and did NOT give up an earned run until the 4th inning...
Of the 5 hits he gave up -- all were singles, and two were squibbers - one never left the infield.

He went 4 innings...gave up 5 hits, 3 runs - only two of which were earned,
Struck out 4, walked 3, threw 96 pitches, and leaves with a 4.50 ERA.
He got no run support from his Cleveland teammates and he looks like he's gonna take the loss 3-0...unless something happens in the 9th...

I am so happy for Zach -- his teammates rallied with a walk off grand slam to save ZMac from taking a loss in his first outing...

Yah that was a decent MLB debut for the youngster and he was promptly sent back to Triple A after the game because Carmona is coming back next week. He'll get his chance again later this season i'm sure.

From just casually following amateur and minor league baseball the past few years, I have a greater appreciation for how hard it is to make it to the Major Leagues.

Zach has been amazing in Columbus (AAA) this season and earned this spot start. Even if this was his only appearance he'll ever have in the Majors (I don't believe that is what's going to happen), then this is still quite an accomplishment.

There have been players taken #1 or #2 in the draft who never made it to the Major Leagues!
