We were also told that the reporters are all very busy, have other jobs, and don't have time to cover Bradley year round.
And we were told "it's the Peoria Journal Star, not the Bradley Journal Star", and that it is not their job to promote Bradley.
Yet, before Geno has ever coached a single game, we are getting much better coverage, and more often than we ever have. And please don't believe the excuse that it was because the coaches refused to allow this kind of coverage. That's never been true. Coaches are sometimes secretive about recruiting and game planning, but they have never been opposed to this kind of coverage about the team and players, which we are now seeing regularly.

    Keep up the good work!
Your last paragraph is not totally fact. There were roadblocks set up that did infact keep either DR or KW from doing stories that Geno has let them write. We as fans are very appreciative of the current relationship between BU and the PJS and hope it continues. I do not work for the PJS and never have but I do believe in the truth being told. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying when JL was hired it didn't get off to a good start but that was PT not DR covering the Braves and PT has been gone for a long time. Anyway thanks DR for the coverage and I agree it would be nice if you could do a story on each newcomer before the season gets here. Great article .

Great story Dave. Keep up the personal stories on all the players, not just the newcomers. No matter what others say, this was long over due.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

You can believe what you want, and it seems most people have already made up their minds. I have acknowledged that the previous coaches did have a different policy about access to some information about recruiting and game prep and planning, and I do acknowledge that Dave does a great job with his articles. But I believe you are wrong to lump all reporting about players together with those couple areas where the PJ Star access was limited. There was never anything stopping the PJ Star from seeking out, researching, and writing about players (or recruits), or giving readers informative game-day reports about the opposing teams, players, injuries, etc. Heck, even writers for other teams' newspapers did a better job with informative articles about Bradley players than the PJ Star did. And fans do it all the time on the message boards.
But instead of such informative reports, on important game days like the opening game in this year's MVC tournament, we've gotten opinion pieces (the umpteenth time) attacking the coach and team and calling for the coach's firing.

Anyone is free to have an agenda if they want, and there will always be a few who will defend the newspaper in every instance because they are friends with the guys there, but let's be honest, anyone can see that there is a completely different approach now than there was for the last 9 years, and I applaud it. Compare the effusively positive coverage of Bradley over just the last 3 months with the drumbeat of negativity that occurred the first 3 months of the JL era. The negative attacks by the PJS began the day Jim Les was hired over a Peoria favorite, before JL had ever said or done a thing at Bradley, and had nothing to do with JL or his rules about access to information.

That was a good article, thanks Dave

Sounds like we've recruited a bunch of good players, looking forward to seeing them play!

It looks like DH is going to have no problem whatsoever throwing down a running one handed slam

For the record, I was talking about posters' complaining/harping about PJS' previous lack of BU coverage in a thread that is about a great PJS article about BU frosh players...

Forget the negative past, and pot shots at previously poor PJS coverage of BU (VINEGAR), concentrate only on cheering the PJS for this article and encouraging them to do more articles like this! (SUGAR)...This will hopefully draw more "flies"....BU MBB articles!

            No 'anti' agenda here...

I agree. Whatever the reason, I am sure all Bradley fans want to see more.

I think we can all agree that any articles written in the PJS about BU basketball is what we all want and the more the better, great way to promote your product during the off season in order to get fans excited and hopefully to get more to buy season tickets, this is going to be a very interesting season coming up with all the new players and coaches on board, really looking forward to watching this group.

Maybe this is done in the media guides or whatever...

but how about once a week every week leading up to the season... each player gets a little profile/interview/picture in the sports page...where we can read about them... why they chose bradley/favorite food/favorite PGA player/favorite sport other than basketball/favorite food/etc...
