Same here! I will follow the Illini a little this year just because of Sammy. Hope Sam has a good year and can play basketball overseas and make some decent money. After next year though Illini basketball goes back to meaning nothing to me.

As an ISU and Michigan fan... I hate them (but only becuase I live here). UM fans dont see Illinois as a rival (most Illinois fans see Mich as a rival but it's just not true...)

I grew up rooting for U of I, Bradley, DePaul

Not until 1993 did I become a die-hard BU fan.
Living down in Florida for so long, you don't grow a hatred toward area schools. I am pro-Illinois basketball (College)
Since moving to Chi-town 3 years ago though, and following the Braves a lot more, I am growing bitterness toward our rival MVC teams, especially ISU (red) and SIU...though my wife is an SIU alum.
Still root for the Illini as my #2 team, but not even close to my fanship with BU...forever!

I will root for Sammy and ONLY Sammy this year, forgot about that.

I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

Oh, you mean the other U of I, the one in Champaign?

I know what you were talking about.

I am only 22 but can still remember the Illini teams well before 04-05....like 2000-2004 before Weber. No one my age realizes Illinois was a number 1 seed in 2001.

1998-1999 is the last team whose roster I really can recognize/remember.

I have been going to BU games all my life...but I started getting real hard core Illini first.

Who is this U of I you speak of and when did they get basketball?

I have been in two of these categories in my life. When I was growing up I hated them.

We went head to head for a few recruits. They would swoop in and get recruits we wanted that did well. I also was offended how little success they could achieve with all the support they had from the state. Then I mellowed I really enjoyed watching some of the teams like D-Will,Dee Brown teams. Or even a few years before that.

Now I voted I root for them. That may be overstating it though. I don't really consider myself an Illinois fan in basketball at all. I just would rather they have a really good team since we get so many of their games. I would rather see Illinois in the national championship than say Kentucky. Unfortunately for me I am a big Illinois fan in football. I had no Bradley to grow up with and now I am stuck waiting for that to succeed. I spend time on the Illinois boards also but 95% of it is because of football.

I did see this on there just now though:

By the way saw that posted on IllinoisLoyalty.com it is a very well run board in my opinion. Any of you that voted you root for Illinois should check it out once in a while. There are a couple other U of I boards that are OK, but they can get out of hand sometimes and so far Illinoisloyalty.com doesn't seem to have that problem much.

By the way if it was The University of Iowa I would have voted Hate with a passion. My cousin played four years of football there I never went to see him because I dislike Iowa so much. I see why he went there though they have a fine coach, and he was able to make an NFL roster for three years before he had to get a real job.

I gonna eclipse 1,000 posts on Illinoisloyalty before the season starts.

LOTS and LOTS of haters....but the moderator does a real nice job...

he has alot of random rules based on who knows what (his opinion) which gets annoying though.

I understand where you are coming from LC. I grew up during the Henson years and hated them. I felt this way until I met Bruce Webber at an event in Peoria a couple of years ago. While I still do not like the Illini, I have mellowed a little bit.

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

I grew up and Illini Fan as my dad went to U of I. Unfortunately a 31 on your ACT and a 3.6 (non weighted all honors) doesnt get you into their engineering program if you are a white middle class male. So i ended up here at Bradley. Now I love Bradley Basketball and will root for BU over U of I but every other game i'm rooting for the Illini.

Instead of working on your grades, you should have been working on getting adopted by a minority family, or undergoing a sex reassignment procedure.

I believe BU has a higher ranked undergrad engineering program anyway, doesn't it? I think you made a wise choice (though it's too bad U of I couldn't save you some money).

U of I's engineering program is in the top 10 in the country. Bradley's is top ten in the midwest. And i actually pay less to go to Bradley because they actually give some scholarship money. And All in all it ended up being the best choice for me academically as well as socially. here at BU i get the personalized attention in the class room and have more opportunities to get involved on the smaller campus. So i'm glad it ended up the way it did haha

I'm glad I didn't end up going there because in looking at other state Universities, I found out that Illinois was messing me over with nearly 30K in tuition and fees when I saw that it's only 5k a year if you're a Texas resident to go to Texas University, 7K if you're Oklahoma, 7 or 8 if you're Tennessee, ridiculous
