  • Dave Reynolds article- Will Egolf

BU big man likely to miss season
Egolf's ACL injury likely to set him back until March; sixth year ahead

Noted Chicago orthopedic expert Dr. Brian Cole will perform surgery July 20. He does not anticipate Will recovering fast enough to allow him to play at all this coming season.

Did not expect him back this season , once again we lose a player to injury for a whole season, will be nice to have him back in 2012-2013 but it takes away a scholarship for next year which could hurt us down the road as we now only have 2 to give .

That's still ok IMO. That gives us 3 freshman next year, the perfect amount, and that's assuming no one one leaves (which always happens). So I think we'll be alright from that perspective.

Bummer for Will. Best of luck with surgery and rehab.

The thing that interested me the most about this article was that they are now taking a wait and see approach on the redshirt of NW. Thinking if he shows he can defend and get up and down the court maybe he plays this upcoming season.

I have met Dr. Brian Cole and he operated on a family member of mine -- he is an outstanding doctor...

I view this as good fortune for Will who IMHO has always relied too much on his athletic ability and not enough on strong fundamentals. With good coaching, odds are he'll be significantly less athletic after this second surgery but a better basketball player. Good luck Will!

Hate to see Will have to go through this again. Best of luck to him for a speedy recovery. I am sure rehab was tough the first time around... Hope he gets great results this time as well!

Possibly relevant to Will Egolf -- Purdue's Robbie Hummel had an almost identical situation -- tearing his ACL for the 2nd time and needing a repeat reconstructive surgery for a 2nd time...

BUT Hummel is doing great and fully on target to recover -- so I hope that adds some optimism to Will........

Warriors both of them. To go through this once but twice! Any athlete that goes through one operation and returns to DI level has to be completely dedicated so just imagine two?

Wish the kid well - he's persevered through this and been patient, encouraging his teammates and not letting adversity get him down.
Hope he has a stellar year for the Boilers. Just would like the Illini to beat them a couple times, especially now that Sammy's runnin' the show in Champaign.

Jeff Goodman is saying that Purdue's Rob Hummel is still reportedly trying to get an extra year from NCAA but now the hurdle is that he went thru the draft...so will this fly??
