The USA Basketball U19 team loses yet again -- this time to Russia (they just lost to Croatia) and they have been knocked out of medal contention...

sorry -- but this is inexcusable -- how is it that out 19 year olds cannot beat anyone except Egypt??

Maybe the style of play may be hard to adjust to for the U.S. team. Perhaps the other countries play more physical and are more mature basketball-wise, and have better outside shooters.

nope -- they play no defense, hog bad shots, and can't shoot unless they have a wide open layup..
giving up 80-100+ points in every game is abysmal and the coaches should not be happy with it...

Read the twitter posts here for some insight why the US team did so poorly. Apparently they were unprepared and not as interested in winning as other countries.

Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress.com was there and tweeted-

Pretty obvious that the US doesn't have any plays in their half-court offense. Everything off their natural talent.

Americans didn't practice today or yesterday? Looks like it...

This is incredbily embarassing for American basketball. Russia only got into the quarterfinals because Brazil lost to Argentina.

Isn't blame/embarrassment due mostly to top US players who gave U19 team the cold shoulder?

Why not get an NBA coach to coach these kids? They are all locked out twiddling their fingers at home. Paul Hewitt is the best we can do?

                  This is a disgrace.

USA didn't respect its opponent today. Didn't prepare for game. No half-court offense. No plan on defense. This is not a surprise.

Paul Hewitt admitted they did not practice yesterday. "They needed the day off". I followed up about hindsight. "No. It was the right move."

Someone asked Hewitt about USA's isolation heavy offense. Said it was by design. "We missed easy shots. We wanted to play through Jeremy."

USA Basketball deciding to go to the beach instead of practicing to prepare for the game. That's going to stick with them for a long time.

A move like that just reeks of arrogance. Essentially telling the kids: we don't need to prepare for the game. We'll just rely on our talent

NBA scouts saying that after the loss, USA players came out to the stands to talk to girls, get their phone numbers. That's appalling

                    You got that right, T.
I do respect Douggie McD though - I'm pretty sure he comes ready to play every game. But who knows - I'm not over there watching them...and THAT's a good thing too!

                      after a couple losses...
our USA Basketball U19 group -- led by Doug McDermott - fell to the consolation (non-medal) bracket -- and finished in 5th place with Australia finishing in 6th...
...behind teams such as Latvia, Serbia, Russia, Argentina...

...Barely edging Australia 78-77 (remember, Australia has virtually NO high school basketball and no college basketball....all they have is club ball similar to what the USA did back in 1890 with basketball only being played in the YMCA and other clubs..)

Again, our outside shooting (4-18 from 3-pt), 42% on free throws (8-19), defense (giving up 77 points to a team we should have held to far less), fewer assists than our opponents, and selfish play hurt us...
