  • Minnesota Timberwolves sign 2009 top draft pick Ricky Rubio

The Minnesota Timberwolves announced Friday (6/17) that they have signed Ricky Rubio. He was their 1st round draft pick in 2009 (#5 overall pick).

They wasted little time marketing him to try to sell more season tickets for next season-

Rubio has a lot of potential and the T=Wolves saw how a quick PG can give teams a great advantage as Jason Terry & JJ Barea demonstrated..

BUT Rubio despite being a great ballhandler, passer, and defender has yet to develop much offensive abilities and averages only 4-6 ppg and 32-35% FG shooting.

Totally agree. When people asked me about Rubio, I always said he was half of Pete Maravich (the crazy ball handling/assists dude but without the absurd scoring abilities.)

But his superior defensive knack for the game means the T-Wolves can treat him as a Rajon Rondo-esque roll untill he learns a jump shot.

I still think to this day Rubio will improve the Timberwolves, and I'm saying 15+ wins next season.

I live in Minneapolis and they are the joke of the town, more free giveaways than any team in the NBA, not sure what team your watching but they run the triangle which really doesnt need a playmaker as Rubio is labled to be. I would say he rides the bench due to he will never be able to stay in front of a NBA pg. If they win 15 more games because because of him i will move to another planet because this one will blow up lol

Rubio, Love, and Derrick Williams is a nice young nucleus. 32-50 doesn't sound like that much of a stretch to me.
If you cant go to school go to STATE!!

Rubio defended Deron Williams and Jason Kidd very well in the gold medal game, and did as much as anyone could on Chris Paul. He'll be fine on that side of the ball.
