Good info from Dave. Here is a little more I have heard-
Jalen Crawford also excelled at some of the other agility and jumping measurements. He is an extraordinary athlete. He has been measured at as high as a 45" vertical leap in the past. The 43.5" measured this week is easily the best vertical leap among Bradley players for many years, even better than Lawrence Wright!

Shayok has been one of the best couple players on the floor in the scrimmages, every day. It looks like there is a good chance he will be an every-game starter, and will play a lot next season. Could we be seeing the 2012 MVC Freshman of the Year?

Though Taylor Brown and Jordan Prosser have not scrimmaged yet, they are increasing their individual workouts, and progressing great.

Will, however, is not able to participate at all. He got an opinion on his injured knee from a top specialist in Chicago yesterday, and the news was that there is NO chance of a recovery that would allow Will to play in the 2011-2012 season. So the Will and the medical staff will focus on doing the right thing and getting him fixed and recovered. Will should be able to make a comeback in the 2012-2013 season, contingent on whether he can be granted a 6th year by the NCAA.

As I posted in another thread, the two 2012 recruits visiting yesterday, Brett Bisping and Tanner Williams, worked out with the team in an open gym, and there are more recruits scheduled to visit next week and throughout the summer.

And I now hear there is still a small chance of a surprising transfer from a BCS school that could end up at Bradley.

One more thing about Will- he is already determined and planning to make a full recovery and a comeback as a 6th year senior in 2012-2013.

I fully understand where Will is coming from here. Those jokes etc got really lame after hearing them repeatedly.

they may not be using the exact same technique for measuring vertical but 43.5 is pretty good --

I have heard and read all kinds of reports of kids claiming 45 and even 50' verticals but I prefer to believe that is hogwash --
check the players who have come through the NBA predraft combine -- and the data goes back over a decade...

these, of course, are the elite athletes and basketball players in the nation since they are NBA prospects, and many have played in the NBA --
but if you sort for the measurements of the verticals of all the players who have done the combine..

In the "No-step vertical leap" NOT one player in 14 years of combine measurements has ever reached 43.5 -- in fact none have ever hit even 40 inches -- the highest ever is 39.5 by Nick Young in 2007 and Kenny Gregory in 2001.

But maybe they allow a running start and that's a different measurement in the combine...but...even then....

The highest vertical leap claimed is by a Frenchman, originally from Algeria, named Kadour Ziani-

He is claimed to have a 60" vertical, though in the interview in the linked artcile, he claimed it was 56". He is also 33 years old now, and only about 5'11", and one of the most amazing dunkers ever. But the 56" vertical has not been independently verified. Ziani makes a living touring around the world with a slam dunk exhibition group named Slam Nation.

Has anyone seen 2YOK play in the scrimmages? What are the strengths of his game that have been noticed? Sounds like being a hard-worker and dedicated to improving may be his best attribute, and will likely stay with him for the next 4 years.

Shayok handles the ball very well for a big wing, and has a nice shot as well as the ability to get to the basket. He will probably be guarded by smaller players who he can shoot over, or by bigger players he should easily be able to beat. He also plays good defense, and has unusually long arms. Hard to believe he slipped past the BCS recruiters.

Sounds like a Luol Deng-type of player. Not to put any undue pressure or expectations on him.

That would be nice if he could resemble Deng, though Shayok has a long way to go to prove himself.
From someone who watched Shayok play, I heard this comparison-
"he is a lot like John Wilkins, but plays harder".

Wilkins did not have the impact many thought he was capable of, but he does have good skills for a 6'9" kid. If Shayok can even give us what JW did for ISU last year, I would be happy.

Those who have seen him in scrimmages say he has a good game both on the perimeter and down low. He was my pick for new player most likely to make an impact. I have heard that it is believed that he will be a key contributor this year....... MVC NOY?
