  • Indiana State building statue of Larry Bird at arena

But there's controversy -- the guy willing to fund the statue -- which will mimic the large statue of Michael Jordan in front of the United Center -
is unwilling to work with the sculptor that has already been working on the project for four years...
    obviously money talks!!

This is the smaller model already created but this work is going to be trashed and a new sculptor will complete the project..

    A statue honoring Larry Bird....nice!

Kareem will now be really upset if UCLA doesn't get him a statue on campus too!

Has there ever been discussion about BU putting up a statue of the Hawk outside Carver?

I'm not for putting up a statue just because, but if you were ever going to put up a statue of someone representing greatness in a BU uniform he'd have to be one of the top if not THE top candidate.

It would be a definite improvement over what's there, but the Civic Center is not owned by Bradley, and likely the progressive-thinking Civic Center Authority would nix the idea..

Not a knock on the Indiana St program, but even though IMO, the Hawk is the greatest Brave of all, Bradley has had many All-Americans the Hawk being the most successful. I'm happy with our Hall of Fame the way it is.

Has the Hawk even been back to Peoria in the last 5-10 years? Not sure he's to deserving of it if he doesn't show a little interest as an alumni.

Lets see he was on the Board of Trustees of the University from 2003 through at least 2008. I know he was in town when a certain teammate was named the basketball coach..... Seems like Hersey has maintained a relationship with the University.

Hawk is a busy guy with his job with the Trailblazers. He has been back several times over the years with his basketball camp at Peoria high, etc. I believe he is on the alumni board or something like that. Hope you weren't questioning his loyalty to Bradley.
