  • Next Season Starting 5

Just wondering what everyone was thinking about the starting 5 next year. With Egolf out for an extended period of time if not the season who starts at the PF spot? Who takes over as the starting PG of this team? Would love to hear everyone's opinions.

I will start it off with this....(assuming Taylor's off season goes well and is fully cleared to play.)

PG - Donivine Stewart (5-11 170 lbs FR.)
    SG - Dyricus Simms-Edwards (6-3 205 lbs JR.)
SF - Taylor Brown (6-6 225 lbs SR.)
PF - Devon Hodges (6-7 220 lbs FR.)
    C - Jordan Prosser (6-9 240 lbs SO.)

6th Man - Walt Lemon Jr. (6-3 185 lbs SO.) instant scoring off the bench.

Then Eastman, Shayok, Thompson, Knezevic, and Crawford coming off the bench when needed.

Hopefully we can avoid anymore serious injuries and have the ability to have 11 players Coach Ford can route as needed.
If you cant go to school go to STATE!!

    PG - Stewart
    SG - Simms-Edwards
    OG - Eastman
    F - Shayock
    P - Prosser

    6th Man - Lemon

I don't believe Taylor will be ready to start at the beginning of the season after almost 8 months off. Those who have seen the team over the past few weeks keep mentioning how good Shayock is...and he seems to have a similar game to TB. Hodges is such a wildcard that I have trouble believing he will start off the bat.

lightsout - great thread to start during the slowest part of the summer!

Even shorthanded, I don't see Geno starting two freshman at the start of the year. That may be just because I don't know much about Hodges or Shayok, except what I've read. I'd personally like to see something like this.

      PG: Stewart
      SG: Simms-Edwards
      OG: Eastman
      F: Brown
      C: Prosser

      6th Man: Lemon

IMHO that's a winning combination. Good scoring threats, athleticism, and defense as long as DS and JP step up like they will.

I guess we'll find out early on if the new coach has a long term or short term philosophy about this program depending on how much he plays the incoming players.

                The Catch-22...

DSE is the best option at PG, but his scoring will go down at the 1.
DS or JC could be the starting PG, but rarely do frosh PG not struggle.

Personally i haven't seen any of the freshman play and i'm not sure if any of them will quite crack the starting 5 or at least start at the beginning of the season so my guess is

                  DSE
                  WL
                  JE
                  TB
                  JP

My thoughts exactly, ChiBear! These are all guys with high B-ball IQ, with Eastman & DSE hopefully stepping up in outside shooting. I think TB & JP with have instant chemistry. With this line-up, I don't see us struggling to get rebounds, as DSE and JE are good boarding guards. Look for a lot of easy buckets for JP, with everyone else finding ways to drive & dish...even TB.
And TB will be ready IMO - he is very talented and physically gifted. Not saying it will be easy, but he'll be ready come early November.

I think Walt will excel in Geno's system - he plays hard on both ends too! An excellent 6th man to give us a spark from time to time, and feel he could play the point behind DS every once in a while.

                        DSE
                        JE
                        SS
                        TB
                        JP

I think Geno goes big and tries to take advantage of our athleticism. Ultimately I think you'll see a lot of variation in our starting line-up as Geno tries out different looks.

I agree, i think it will change a lot during the beginning of the season, but hopefully by conference time he has a solid starting 5 that work well together

Without significant improvement I cannot see Eastman starting. He is a nice compliment off the bench. Don't get me wrong, this is not a knock on Jake, but is he really starter caliber? I really DO NOT want to see Dyricus at the point. I think he's a 20 ppg scorer if he is let loose. Like I have said in previous posts, I really think that Donivine is a very special talent and think that he could probably step right in and run this team. So I would have to agree with lightsout on this. His lineup makes me excited! We shall see though!

I am going against the grain with my lineup.

                              DSE
                              SS
                              TB
                              DH
                              JP

I'll admit that I don't like DSE at the point!
