The problem is that we'll never know what WE could have created if he played the 4 exclusively and TB the 3. The real issue now is that TB will need to step in and play a lot more minutes at the 4.

That would be a real shame; I hope Geno explores other options. TB needs to be playing the small forward position with a green light to create for himself and everyone else.

Is it normal to plan on starting a season with no viable point guard or forward on the bench?

This has nothing to do with Les. He's not the coach. Focus on the future instead of the past.

I just watched the video of the injury and find it very concerning at how easy his ACL tore. His knee barely twisted, i'm curious at what the doctor will find during surgery. Hopefully the doctors can put some extra super glue on it or something.

I'm curious if the NCAA will grant a 6th year for a player that has had the same knee tore twice instead of 2 seperate body part injuries.

Jason -- virtually every other time the NCAA has ever granted the Sixth Year Waiver -- it's been to a kid who had TWO separate season ending injuries and who did NOT lose any time to transfers, academics, or other issues within his control.
Will does satisfy these requirements - but each case is viewed and decided individually --

I would think he would get a 6th year wavier, but the NCAA has consistently shown to be an inconsistent organization. I don't expect anything from the NCAA until they actually make their decision.

I just made the same comment on the WE thread.

Well, this injury curse has GOT to stop one of these days!

I wonder if people that never accepted it before will start using it with a new coach in place.

Apples and oranges BNC. One coach consistently had injuries but had a steady downward trend.....

                        22-11 NCAA
                        22-13 NIT

                        21-15 CIT
                        16-15 NOTHING
                        12-20 NOTHING

The new coach takes over a train wreck where he just lost several starters (SM, AW, WE) from a last place team. I think he deserves at least one year since the last coach was given 9 years. Don't you?

You don't suppose those injuries had something to do with the "downward trend" or the losing season?

No doubt Da Coach. I wish Les had been given one more year with a full contingent but que sera, sera. Let's see if Geno has any better luck on the injury front. If not, hopefully his proven record of success with taking new players to new heights can pay off at BU.

While technically SM started six games last season, I have a hard time considering him a "starter from a last place team".

Apples & oranges B4L. You are comparing a coaches allowed time to stay at his job, to the allowed time to not be criticized. Jim Les was criticized from day one.

I do feel GF deserves just as much of a chance to do good things as JL did, but to say there should be a honeymoon from scrutiny, one that JL never got, is something I do not agree with. It will be interesting to see if the tune changes for some fans/posters. Will a different coach all of the sudden change their attack posture, for better or worse?

I myself will support GF the same way I supported JL. In my opinion, wins and losses fall all on the players most of the time, so my approach is usually to take it easy on the coaches. They know more than me.
