  • Illinois to play in Cancun Challenge next year

It has been reported already that Illinois was part of next season's Cancun Challenge, but the matchups have now been announced -

Illinois to play in Cancun Challenge
One hundred years provides more than several lifetimes full of highlights, some lowlights, and many memories. Here’s a look at 100 years of the Western Golf Association and the Western Open. …

The Illini will have home games against SIU-E (11/14) and Lipscomb (11/17), then travel to Cancun and play Richmond on Nov. 22, then either Illinois State or Rutgers on Nov. 23.

Even more boring that they are slated to play those cupcakes as part of the deal. I'm not sure how competitive the Illini will be this next season with a good chunk of their scoring gone from last year.
Hopefully Sammy will add a spark. IF (and that's a BIG "if") newcomers don't step up, the Illini are going to be hard-pressed to make even the NIT.

hard pressed to make the NIT is a stretch... they should be a double digit seed in the NCAA

I agree. With SM (I know I'm biased) they will have a bit more guts and if the incoming freshmen contribute at all they will be about like last year. Middle of the pack in the B10, maybe win a game in the NCAA. This will be the type of team Weber will get more out of than the head cases that he had last year.

I do think if it's an NIT season in Champaign, Weber will probably be unemployed.

The state of Illinois has the best high school basketball classes for 2013................and 2014

if weber gives the impression that he is even close to landing parker, hamilton, austin, lyle, EDIT: OKAFOR etc.... he will not lose his job

with richmond everything was blue..........now......i still think NCAA but nothing special

Rutgers is confirming that they start by playing ISU and then advance (if win) to face the winner between Illinois & Richmond.

"..this means is that Rutgers will square off with Illinois State, with the victor
playing the winner of Illinois/Richmond. RU played Illinois five years ago in a
similar tournament at South Padre Island."
