  • Penn State's head coach steps down to take top spot at Navy

Navy -- this is what's being reported -- seems odd...
Penn State coach Ed DeChellis will be named coach at Navy, sources told ESPN.com.

sounds like maybe he was pressured out and that PSU wanted to make a change..

Seems like they had some decent recruits coming in. Does the process to be released from an LOI remain the same now that the signing period is over?

Obviously they won't be able to sign new LOIs, but it could put a few interesting people out looking for a last minute home...

they have two 6-11 guys under LOI -- neither is widely known...

but they also just landed 4-Star Juwan Staten transfer from Dayton --
who verballed to Penn State but is a transfer so no LOI

Staten incidentally is immediately on the phone looking to go elsewhere...

I hope Geno has the kid's phone number...

Some recruiting sites describe a "feeding frenzy" with other schools going after the kids that Penn State had signed.
Technically, those kids are all signed to NLIs, and it's a violation to contact them. But we know these things take place, just as they did with Bradley's signees.

Here is a list of Penn State's recruits-

Bizarre, confusing, stunning. Those were just some of the words on the Twitter universe after news broke that Penn State’s Ed DeChellis was leaving a Big Ten job for a middle-of-the-pack Patriot League job at a service academy.

After reading this, looks like Ed was gettin' while the gettin' was good. The more you think about it, it's arguably the worst job in the Big 10 next to NW and maybe now Nebraska. Before he got there Penn St. was completely irrelevant, now he's got them somewhat competitive and couldn't get reassurance that he'd get a long term contract? I don't blame him for wanting to leave. Even though the Navy job sounds almost as brutal.

Yes, but Anapolis is a gorgeous town!
