  • BU fans asked to stand until first media timeout

Kirk Wessler has a column about Bradley's new ideas to increase "crowd excitement"--

I couldn't agree more with KW. I noticed some on the PJStar fourm took exception to his article, but you know what, the same people they are defending are the ones who yell at the students to sit down. I have no sympathy for these people. If I pay money to go and cheer on my team, I'll stand when I darn well want to!

One poster even sited the Bradley/Tulsa game from 1994 when they were down by 18 and came back to win. Most of the fans, myself included, were standing most of the second half, cheering Bradley back over a team that would make the Sweet Sixteen that year. There's a reason the crowd was standing that day, and it worked.

I'll do my part tomorrow to make sure we can recreate that atmosphere, hopefully without falling behind by 18 points!

      Old days

I remember the old days at the Field House (ephasize Reverence ) when the fans stood clapping until the visitors scored.

Who remembers standing and clapping BU to a 28-0 lead against New Mex. St.?

      We lost the game.....................

Bfan.....you and I have the "right" to sit or stand. I was the one that mentioned the Tulsa game. You are correct...many stood for a long time, out of choice. The game dictated we do so NOT an article in the paper or a "shame cam".

I want an increase in the excitement level as much as anyone but to shame, embarass or call out those that might not share your or my passion/fevor is wrong IMO.

Why "divide" the fanbase? Why do I have anymore "right" if I choose to stand then someone who chooses to sit?

I applaud what BU is trying to do....less commercials, Red outs, more band......I don't like Wesslers calling others out. You DON'T get people to join in through threats and ridcule..PERIOD.

I love my section....no one cares if I stand. If they did (a majority) I would find another seat. Its about mutual respect NOT Civil war.

          I DO!

I recall the band used to be able to keep playing during the play of the game - didn't they?

I ama KW basher.....seriously I have NO prob with KW. ( I realize you were kidding). Just don't think he's doing BU any justice with this article. Dividing the fanbase is a mistake and will detract some from the game tonite.

                    Sit...Stand...I don't care...just make some noise!

The only "fans" that I don't understand are the ones that sit and do absolutely nothing. C'mon people...is it that hard to clap once in a while?....

As a "beer drinking card carrying AARP blue hair" I for one would stand THE WHOLE GAME, but There are FANS that have physical infirmities that cannot stand the whole game and when I take my 2 granddaughters ages 5 and 9, they could not see any of the game if the fans in front of them are standing.
Also, If you stand the whole game, does it not water down the reason you are standing ie: increase momentum, a defensive stand, saluting a paticularly exciting play.
I third DOGS standing. Stand stand stand, but use it wisely and with descretion to those who may be physically or height impaired behind you!

If tonights game is like every other game, everytime the crowd wants to make noise there is a commercial on the scoreboard, or a stupid promotion like a student shooting for pizza or 2 youngsters running down the court trying to put on a uniform. That stuff should take place at halftime or before the game. When the crowd wants to make noise let them do it. As for the band, sometimes I think they forgot how to play the fight song.

THANK YOU P.G. I have been harping on this for years (see my signature!) Why does everything have to be so "scripted" when it comes to the band? They play our fight song EXACTLY four times every game. (When the team takes the court, at the 4 min. time out of each half, and at the end of the game.) This song should be beat into our oppenents heads IMO....

When BU goes on a run, the crowd is finally on its feet and cheering LOUDLY, and the other team is forced to call a time out...our band strikes up..... the theme from Austin Powers???....play the damn fight song VROMAN!!!! Every other band in the nation does this!! ISU, ILLINI, Notre Dame, MICHIGAN... and I bet none of these schools need the PA announcer to tell the crowd "this is our fight song..please stand and clap".......phewwww...I feel better now!

You guys make some good points.....I would suggest send a nice email to BU and make some suggestions.

Sounds as if some are getting through to BU as they are adopting some stuff we have suggested for quite sometime.

Thanks Chuckie T. I used to think Splish Splash I Was Taking a Bath was the Bradley Fight song, it was played so much. I'll have to watch tonight to see if they even play it 4 times. I have e-mailed Kirk Wessler the last 2 years asking him to watch what happens during time-outs. It's like talking to a stone wall. I wonder if he stands in his free pressbox seat.
