Cleveland Cavaliers win NBA draft lottery

Originally posted by Da Coach View PostActually Ricky Rubio and Jonny Flynn were both rated highly PGs in that 2009 draft. Rubio refused to sign, and Flynn had a good rookie season, but was relegated to a backup role this season when they signed Luke Ridenour as a free agent. Flynn is still a decent NBA backup and is only 21. So these may not be the worst moves the Timberwolves have ever made, and the list of worse draft picks by every team is quite long.
I understand they were highly rated. The move was universally laughed at even during the draft.
One guy who basically said don't pick me, I won't sign with you and then you pick him. Now he has played absolutely terribly in Spain, and might actually jump to the NBA.
The next guy plays the exact same position of the guy you just picked. To describe a #7 pick in a draft as a 'decent NBA backup' is exactly why it was a bad pick. Not to mention the guy you are trying to convince to come play for you, you just gave him a 20MPG reason not to come.
Now had they taken a combination of Flynn and Curry, or Rubio and Curry that year; it would have made a little more sense.

It doesn't make sense that only 4 teams with the worst record have won the lottery since 1985, no wonder bad teams stay bad in the NBA.
But the Cavs getting the first pick is great for them. Kyrie won't be the next Chirs Paul or Deron Williams, but his celling seems to be more realistically Chauncey Billups (good shooter, good passer, good leader, not fast, not necessarily great at anything.)

I think the weak drafts are a result of too many NBA teams. There are too many teams and not enough stars. When you have this many kids being drafted to so many teams the field is going to look weak. Especially on a year like this year.Thinking is the hardest work, that is why so few people do it. -Henry Ford
Yeah...I've been in college for a while now and I'm pretty sure that awesomest is not a word. -Andrew E.
