It's not a true hatred. Not like a Yankees or ISU type of thing. It's more of just a standing my ground deal. With so many U of I fans in the area growing up, as a BU fan, I just felt it was my obligation to be over dramatically disapproving of UI due to their large number of bandwagon fans/annoying fans throughout school and such.
Although apparently not officially announced...
these guys say Sammy Maniscalco is going to be the TEAM CAPTAIN of this season's Illini basketball team!!
That is an incredible accomplishment to come in and leap over numerous other players to get that honor
having never yet played a single minute for Illinois!

Definitely a great accomplishment, but i'm thinking the illini are in trouble next year.
It's probably a good choice. Sam will be the only senior on the roster this coming season, the only true point guard who has any D1 experience, and the only player with more than 2 seasons of total experience.
Sure would suck for Sam to play on a team that gets his coach canned in 2 straight seasons. He missed most of last season but you know Weber will be riding him hard this season to keep things afloat with a relatively inexperienced crew and a coach that's on the hot seat.
I'd have to believe he's ready for the challenge. I know we could have used him numerous ways. If his ankle's are truly healed he'll be pushing that team further then without him.

From the article:
Sam says he can’t remember missing a game or practice since the fourth grade. Neither can anyone else.
Later in the same article:
Due to the ankle, he hadn’t practiced for a week leading up to the holiday tournament.
Am I misinterpreting something? Sam took a pounding during the games, so I just assumed he took some practice time off to heal like Marcello Robinson had to his senior season.
He made it to those practices -- he just didn't run or work out 100%
Lastly -- in the two months that Sammy has been on the U of I campus, I have read more articles on him and about him and seen more features and interviews (even on the Peoria TV stations) than we saw in ALL FOUR years combined...
and people wonder why there's a sense of pessimism about the local media - but if one of our kids gets an underage drinking citation or has a spat with a girlfriend or tweets from class, then it gets weeks of negative coverage and also gets mentioned and brought back up again and again endless times in every subsequent article.
Maybe the best and most comprehensive look at a BU player that I can ever remember. Pay attention PJS! THIS is what we want to see!
Actually (I know you made this comment some time ago) our local coverage of BU here this off-season has been better than
anytime I can recall in the four-decades-plus that I have been following Braves basketball.
Kudos to Dave Reynolds -- he really is giving us something almost every day or two about the team, players, etc...
-then this quote.. "Weber??™s main concerns are starting point guard..???Is Sam going to be the guy??™??™ at the point, Weber said"
- "Weber said the Illini are also hoping to see if Tracy Abrams can handle the backup point guard slot"
so if the backup PG slot is Abrams', and if their only real PG from last year (McCamey) is gone, and if Sammy's getting this kind of press already - then I think he's going to be their starting PG.
Also this comment... "The chemistry is different,??™??™ Richardson said. ???Nobody has a bad attitude.??™??™
...hmmm.....are you listening to your ex-teammates, Jereme Richmond?
ESPN story about Bruce Webber waiting to see who the new AD will be, but there is also video of them getting ready for Italy and Sam is in it running the point.
Interesting thought while waiting for BU to settle with JL, and, MBB to start....
Danny Granger disagrees with coaching change (and apparently new coach) and leaves BU for larger program. Goes on to successful NCAA and NBA Careers = BUM
Sammy disagrees with coaching change and leaves BU for larger instate program = LEDGEND
Too bad for Danny Mo was let go when he was only a sophomore. Never had a chance to play long enough for BU to be "Once A Brave, Always A Brave"
