Sportscaster Daryl Hawks of NBC channel 5 (Chicago) was in Atlanta to cover tonight's Bulls-Hawks game. He was found dead in his hotel room a short time ago. He was only 38 years old and reported to be in excellent health.

I heard this on the radio this afternoon. This is just absolutely stunning that this happened again on the same station nine years after another African-American sportscaster died of a heart attack! In 2002 Darrian Chapman died after playing a game of hockey. I believe he was a similar age to Hawks though I can't remember his health status, though I'm guessing he was of good shape as well to be playing hockey.
I guess it just goes to show you that we cannot control our own destiny no matter how hard we try to slow down time. Of course I will wait until the autopsy results come out, but an ex-marine in great shape dying so young is something that can't be explained if it happened naturally.
