  • Which Valley coach, other than GF, would you want?

Guys - I'm going to be writing a series of articles that I hope you will participate in. There will be sites from around the league that I'll ask the same questions to, and compile the answers.

    The first question is,

"Which Valley coach, other than your own, would you like to run your program?"

If you want to post comments, I might use some in the articles. I would PM you before I do that in order to obtain permission.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic... the poll will be up for one week, and the choices are listed in alphabetical order.

    Thanks!

Ben Jacobson and it's not that close in my view, all things considered.

I'm a Paul Lusk fan. He has a great pedigree, did recruiting for the now perenially-though Boilermakers, and think he'll keep MSU competitive, I was hoping BU would land him this year.

Agree. I voted based on experienced MVC coaches.

Lusk, only because Cuonzo would have been my first choice.

I also would have been thrilled to have Lusk as BU's hire before we got GF.

Marshall or Jacobsen. I voted for Marshall but its really a toss up.

Question to you guys picking Lusk: May I ask why you chose a guy who doesnt have D I head coaching experience(and his one year at the D III level wasnt pretty) over guys like Jacobsen and Marshall who have proven they can win this league? Just curious.

Recruiting Purdue is not the same as recruiting MSU, just sayin. I know there are alot of similarites, but its alot easier to say to a kid "hey, were in the Big 10, we play on national TV a WHOLE Lot..... etc."

IMO there is no way you can choose a guy who hasnt coached a D I game in his life, over one guy who has been to the sweet 16 and another guy who was within a few bad calls of beating the eventual national champion in UConn. Also both of them have won this league, Lusk is on the same plane as Geno IMO in this discussion, neither of them has won anything in the Valley yet.

                          Alright, I'll admit it.

I voted for Jank, because I had to vote to see the results.

(I voted for Jacobsen on redbirdfan.net)

So who was Jank's other vote?

Again - interesting to look back - unlike last spring nobody's talking about the fine job Greg Lansing did ...he was actually expected to do way better than he ended up doing......going 8-11 in 2012.......after going 9-2 in the pre-conference schedule...

A year ago at this time - Greg Lansing was one of the the hottest Valley commodities........
Lansing got 11 FIRST PLACE votes for Coach of the Year last year in 2011 and his team even got several FIRST PLACE VOTES this season, 2012 - during the MVC Preseason Poll....
PLUS -- they had nearly their whole team returning and just about everyone picked them to be up there with Creighton and Wichita instead of down there with the 6-7-8th place guys...

And as this poll shows...people envied him here....just like a few years earlier, they envied Chris Lowery -- in fact I recall a thread moaning about why we couldn't land a coach who could recruit and coach like Chris Lowery!
Threads like this make me realize that I think we need to be happy with and support the guys we have - they need us, instead of fans constantly seeing the greener grass elsewhere
