  • Once The Dust Settles...

Once the recruiting dust settles, and GF fills his last scholarship, differences to BU roster for 2011-12 due to coaching change look like this:

    JL's Team
    +SM (Sr)
    +SH (So)
    +RA (Fr)

    GF's Team
    +DH (Fr)
    +JC (Fr)
    +?? (?)

Will be interesting to see over the next season, and, over the next couple years how GF's new guys stack up to the guys JL would have had/brought in. Roster edge JL in short term? Roster edge GF over time? A lot of this comparison will ride on the last GF BU 2011-12 roster addition, if there will be one!

Only time will help tell....but fun to debate over in the meantime until the actual season starts....

Hopefully there will be "Shock and Awe" in GF's last 2011 recruit, and, "Mission Accomplished" for BU in 2011-12 and beyond!

I really like what GF is doing, but IMO SM next year and RA long term makes it so it's not even close if you're going to compare like that. You're talking a returning All-Conference player who will be starting for a big-time BCS program and a player who at least currently projects out to be far better than anyone else in the recruiting class or even team. You also would kind of have to factor in the person JL would have gotten with SM's empty scholarship the next year, even though we'll never know.

I don't believe anyone can make that statement yet. Abell is not rated any higher (or much higher) than many players on Bradley's roster...... Prosser, DSE, and a few others.

I will go out on a limb and say that Crawford and Hodges will have better careers at BU than Abell will have at IU.

I hope you are right, and I do believe we landed a couple potential stars late, but there is a reason Remy ended up with offers to Big Ten and Big East schools after he was released by Bradley. He might have been rated 3-stars by most rating services, but that had mostly to do with the fact he committed early to a midmajor like Bradley. He is better than a typical 3-star recruit, and if he had committed to Indiana earlier, he would have probably been a 4-star recruit and Top 100 nationally.

Does the dust ever settle in Arizona?

Get Crider and/or Cerina, and hopefully losing Remy will be a non-issue.

I didn't take a position on this, just started a thread to take up some time/space/discussion waiting for the season to actually start.

Once the ball is tossed up this fall, and play starts, will be fun to watch and speculate more!

SM's loss hurts BU in the short run, more than I think he will help ILL. Will be interesting to see how his game translates in the B10....Can he defend quicker/taller players in the B10? From what I saw, SM was a good spot up shooter, and penetrator in the MVC, but wasn't as effective shooting on the move. Will the driving lanes be there in the B10 vs the MVC with taller/more athletic players in the B10? Will he be able to get his shot off as easily in the B10? Can he shoot off screens on the move in the B10 better than he did in MVC? JMHO...No agenda...It would send a great message if MVC All Conference Players can play as well in B10 night in, night out,,,

              SH is a big unknown.

RA is an exciting recruit for IU. Big time recurits in MVC and BCS don't always pan out. Lesser rated recruits in MVC and BCS sometimes shine. RA chance of success would have been greater at BU in the MVC than IU/Big 10...If he does indeed hang with the B10 players, another what could have been for BU/MVC....

Possibly three good Fr players with upside, vs one very good Sr, one exciting Fr recruit, and one unknown So....

This is the stuff that starts bar fights!

                Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™
