  • Wichita State U. assistant professor calls BYU racist

Don't know if you guys saw this in the Chicago Tribune today... a WSU faculty member blatantly blames race for the way Brandon Davies was treated at BYU.

It's embarrassing, no matter what color you are, that nobody can take responsibility for themselves.

Don't putt until the cup stops movin'

I agree with you. I don't see any racism in that. But there are people who see racism in everything, all the time.

I totally agree DC. I think the biggest problem society faces these days is that most of the people who cry racism all the time have forgotten what the term racism actually means. Before we can solve this problem, all people have to know what racism is and what racism isn't.

Unfortunately, anytime someone tries to instill some morality in today's society they are automatically called racist. Not good!

And this WSU professor is representative of how out of touch many college facility members are these days. Basing an opinion just on numbers without investigating each case does no one no good.

Dr. Smith worked for BYU for many years, and if you dig through some of his published work and his resume, which I have done in the last hour or so, he has molded an entire career around bringing "racism" to light. I can only wonder that if the statistics were reversed and the 80% of the kids that had honor code violations were white, if we would even hear about it...

I think it stems from that fact that a very large number of members of the Church of Ladder Day Saints are open and outspoken in their belief that darker skinned races are inferior to 'whites' and that they cannot attain the highest level of salvation. (This is not all of them by any means, and I by no means want to spark a religious debate, just stating a fact)
