  • Some insight to the recruiting techniques of the Big East

Here is an interesting article about a kid named Jamine "Greedy" Peterson. He played at Providence under former Drake coach Keno Davis (though he was recruited to Providence by former coach Tim Welsh). As a sophomore in 2009-2010 he started every game for the Friars, and had a great season averaging 19.6 ppg and 10.2 rpg. But he abruptly left school after his sophomore season, and went to Europe to play professionally. He lasted only 3 months there, then returned to the US and played the last half of last season in the NBA D-League. He is now preparing for the NBA draft, and is projected as a possible late 2nd round draft pick.
Now there are stories emerging about what happened at Providence, and why he left. Apparently he was forced to leave because of his involvement in a sleazy incident involving a recruit he was hosting, which came on the heels of several legal incidents involving other Providence players.

Peterson said that the Providence coaches were aware that the recruit, who was being recruited by Providence, would be hanging out on campus that night. Peterson said the coaches told him and the other players to "have a good time" with the recruit.

Peterson said that on his recruiting visit to Providence in high school he was introduced to a female who showed him a "good time."

Peterson understood that as tradition. He had seen it done throughout his time at Providence and he had introduced plenty of recruits to females. He thought he was just doing his part to help lure in the recruits. He never thought twice about it. He never thought he was doing anything wrong.

When recruits came to campus, he said that's what the Providence players did. They would find a willing female to show the recruits a "good time."

Peterson claims that the Providence coaches "would tell us to have a good time but be careful and stay out of trouble. They knew we were going to show him some love with a female."

That's exactly what Peterson did. He called a female who the Providence players called numerous times to perform oral sex on recruits. According to Peterson, "She always says that's her hobby. That's what she likes to do. She wants to be a porn star."

How many recruits does Peterson recall her performing oral sex on? "Let's just say she's in double figures."

The incident took place in Peterson's living room. Peterson lived with two teammates, but according to Peterson neither of them were there that night. One of his teammates, who Peterson chose to remain anonymous, was present. That player was a senior at the time.

"I was doing what they did to me when I was in the recruiting process," said Peterson. "Every time a recruit visits, the coaches would ask us if we can take them out and show them a good time."

Now, another bizarrre twist to this story-
The Providence Journal newspaper caught wind of this article, and checked into it. However, despite the fact that the writer of this article, Ryan Feldman of HoopsReport.com, claims to have interviewed Peterson on multiple occasions, Peterson now denies that he ever talked to him.

Jamine Peterson is preparing for the June NBA draft, and he is a marginal 2nd round draft possibility. It seems like a possible explanation for this disparity might be the fact that Peterson believes that news about this incident may now hurt his draft status with some teams.

No wonder Providence is no good.

Im sure UCONN, Georgetown, and the Cuse make them feel like Jesus Shuttlesworth with Rick Fox as their host.

Should we assume UConn has the most "friendly" girls?

There should be no second chances.

Gary Barnett was the Colorado coach who was caught up in the scandal at Colorado. Officially he resigned on Dec. 9, 2005, and was not fired, but it was a forced resignation. Colorado did pay a $3 million buyout.

But where did you get the fact that he is working at UCLA? I can't find any report that he ever took a job at UCLA, and he is not listed on their website anywhere.

According to Wikipedia, he started and has run the private Gary Barnett Foundation since he left Colorado, and he is a commentator for Sports USA Radio Network, but he has not gotten back into coaching.

Bruce Pearl and the Tennessee football coaches (Lane Kiffin) always had their recruits "hosted" on campus by assigned "hostess co-eds"..

some reports say the hostesses did a whole lot more than show the recruits around campus..

The NCAA is probing Tennessee's football recruiting practices, according to several prep prospects, their family members and high school administrators, The New York Times reported.

this photo got Tennessee in trouble because it proves that the hostesses
even went off campus to the recruits' own home towns, attended their
high school football games, and helped in their recruitments by whatever
favors they might have done beyond posing for this photo...

This probably happens at 90% of all D-1 schools in some sport(s), it may not be a "tradition" everywhere, but it happens.

I am 100% sure it doesn't happen at Bradley or Illinois!

So this is what college athlete recruiting has come to?

I am sure the NCAA will get right on this!

                          But then again, maybe not!

I think she looks more like a recruiting perk for a certain ex-politician, who now has an extremely low-rated cable news-political-talk show.
