Because he had already enrolled at Iowa - when he went to Morgan State - he was considered a transfer and had to sit out last year -
but Anthony Hubbard - now 27 years old is going play for Morgan State (MEAC) this year
Anthony Hubbard (11) Guard/Forward - ›› 2012-13 (JUNIOR) Saw action in 32 games and started in 22 … Averaged 11.4 ppg and led the team with 6.5 rpg … Shot 47

Thanks for the update...I completely forgot about Hubbard. Kid was supposedly dominating Iowa practices last year. Hopefully things work out for him at Morgan St.

One of the greatest all-time, IMO, high school players in Peoria's history played for Morgan St. Anyone remember him?

Might have. I don't know where he went from Michigan. But that's not who I'm posting about.
            Long before Brandun.

Tougher one than I thought for all the high school basketball experts on this board. Does the name Alvin O'Neal ring a bell?

Alvin O'Neal played for a Spaulding team that placed top 4 at the state tournament in 1969. Did he start out at Purdue? I think they beat a very good San Jose team at the Fieldhouse in either the sectional championship or super.

Yes - it was Alvin O'Neal - and I do vaguely recall that - he did end up at Morgan State which was still D-II at that time

I was around in Peoria back in the late 60's and early 70's and I remember watching O'Neal playing in the game in the Fieldhouse vs. Seymour Reed's Lincoln -
here is that box score...third one down

Brian Lavin's dad was also on that Spalding team and they won all the way to the State Title game and then lost to Proviso East - with Jim Brewer

Alvin started out at Illinos. He didn't get the playing time many thought he should have. Spalding went to Champaign again the following season, led by Ken Wolbeck. I believe they played San Jose that season.
