  • Iowa signs 26 year old ex-con

Iowa just got a committment from Anthony Hubbard, a 6'5" guard from Frederick (Maryland) Community College where he averaged 20.7 points and 10.1 rebounds while shooting 64.1%. He is a Juco All-American. He picked Iowa over several other major offers. What makes this kid's story a little different than the usual juco player is that he was convicted of robbery at age 17 and spent nearly 4 years in prison. But he has turned his life around, and is on track to graduate from junior college with a GPA of 3.2, and he'll get a Big Ten ride.

That's a nice story. You don't always see people that get in trouble able to turn things around. Glad he is a success story.

He's going to Iowa? Just a matter of time before something happens there. Not because of the kid personally, but that place has a habit of getting people in trouble

      Go Hawks!

I watched the press conference earlier today...this is really an amazing story. To hear Hubbard tell his story, there was hardly a dry eye in the room.

26 year old Anthony Hubbard -- already enrolled at Iowa and set to play for them this fall ..
and averaging 23.2 points, 11.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists...in their summer "Prime Time" league...
and rated as the top Big Ten incoming juco player --
has reportedly left Iowa and will not return..

Anthony Hubbard who reportedly said he was leaving Iowa because he was homesick and wanted to be closer to home (Virginia)
is apparently rumored to be going to Wichita State -- so much for the lie about closer to home...

Rumor has it that new Wichita assistant Greg Heiar - ex-Chipola coach - has been "talking" (meaning tampering) to guys on other teams resulting in getting Oregon transfer Malcolm Armstead to come to Wichita and now getting Hubbard to come to Wichita.
If this is the case - the guy should be banished.

There would be nobody left to coach anywhere in college, because the rumor is that every division 1 program is dirty.

After I re-read the comment I realized the error in my interpretation and removed my post.

                        Another really interesting development--
apparently, according to this report, the Wichita State administration is going over the heads of the coaches and barring this guy's transfer..

..there's also a rumor he may land at Nebraska..

BTW - he didn't leave Iowa voluntarily........
Anthony Hubbard was dismissed from the University of Iowa basketball team last week because he violated a zero tolerance policy that was established for him when he was allowed to join the Big Ten program under unusual circumstances.

hmm.. Too bad. Sounds like it could've been a good story. And good for both sides. Glad to see Coach make a hard line and stock to it.
