Wow, a fractured arm bone (humerus). I have never seen or heard of this injury from playing basketball, but that is apparently how it happened. He was reportedly injured at a practice, and fell awkwardly after attempting a dunk. He landed on his left arm and was taken on a stretcher by ambulance to the hospital. He will need surgery to fix that, but it is an injury that should heal OK in several months. He will probably be able to play next year, barring any inury to nerves or blood vessles. There is talk about a medical redshirt, but Lathan is not eligible because he lost a year with transferring to Indiana State.
Lathan & Doluony both having shoulder surgery. Doluony didn't get a lot of minutes this past season & this is part of the reason for that no doubt.........
You gotta hope for Dwayne Lathan's sake that he can heal, get cleared, and play this year because he is unlikely to get another year as a redshirt year.
His college career started in 2007 at Louisiana Tech, then he transferred and sat out a year and then played two more injury prone years at Indiana State.
So this is his 5th year, and given his voluntary transfer from Louisiana tech -- he's not likely to get the special NCAA 6th year waiver.
That's not saying he couldn't but as we've discussed before -- I know of only ONE men's basketball player ever who got the 6th year waiver when one of their missed years was NOT an injury year but a transfer year.
Anyway -- word is still pending on when he can play --
Julian Betko transferred from Clemson to Butler and promptly tore an ACL, healed, tore the other, then played two moderately healthy seasons - one as q sixth year.
If DL is on target for a degree and especially if he has be grades to gain entrance to grad school; hed get the 6th year.
I wouldn't count on a 6th year for him just yet. The majority of appeals to the NCAA for a 6th year are denied, and it's especially rare for them to grant one unless a kid misses 2 seasons because of 2 separate injuries, with no years lost due to transfers.

Julian Betko is an example of a guy who did get a 6th year waiver...
but I would beg to differ slightly since Betko's situation is not exactly the same...and some of the things you cite are debatable...
You say - he only played "TWO moderately healthy seasons" at Butler..
but not entirely accurate...
In 2005-2006 he played in every one of Butler's 33 games In 2006-2007 he "set a Butler single season record for games played (36)" and started all 36 games.. In 2007-2008 he started every game and set the all time Butler record by having "Played in 103 consecutive games for the Bulldogs"
Anyway - on the 6th year thing...
In Betko's sophomore year at Clemson (03-04), he hurt his knee after only playing a few minutes of a single game...and this 1st injury happened at Clemson, not at Butler -
Sophomore forward from Ruzomberok, Slovakia to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery on Thursday.
..then he sat out all of that year, and the entire next year as well recovering from the knee -
In the interval - he transferred to Butler but the NCAA ruled that both years, 03-04 and 04-05, would have been lost to injury...thus granting him 3 more at Butler.
In the only other case I know of - that we have discussed previously, there was also an injury in the same year of the transfer...but...
In Lathan's case -- it appears there is NO such situation -- just the voluntary transfer in a season that he would have otherwise been eligible...
All I am saying is that virtually none of the 6th year waivers granted by NCAA involve losing a season with a voluntary transfer - and their own rules explain why...
