  • Future Power Forward

Sounds like we could have a couple PF recurits on campus next weekend. Reynolds lists 6-6 Corbin Thomas from Southwestern Illinois College, 6-7 Larry Nance, Jr., of Revere, Ohio High School and 6-8 James Farr of Evanston High School. All three seem to bring different skills to the table.

Larry Nance Jr. is the son of former NBA player Larry Nance Sr. Nance Jr. was a point guard till his Sophomore season when he grew 6 inches and gained 75 pounds. He says he feels he can play any position on the court.

Update: Make sure to check out our Q&A with Nance as well. We mentioned Max Bielfeldt as a possible 2011 target on Monday with the caveat that there might be another 2011 prospect in the mix as well. After a little digging over the last 24 hours, we’ve discovered another name on the radar: Larry […]

I really like the sounds of Nance and it seems like he already knows Coach Ford...

Farr still needs to pass the ACT.

ISU is also in the running but currently doesn't have an open spot.

He was outstanding in that tournament. But, he did not qualify out of high school. He averaged 14 ppg and 7 rpg at Southwestern Illinois College this year. He does not have a lot of offensive skills and gets almost all his points right at the basket. He did shoot 64% from the field this season, but only 60% from the free throw line. From what I can find, and what I recall, he is a Marcus Pollard type of player. I think we could really use a kid like this for inside toughness and rebounding, and to back up TB and WE.

Nance Jr. is a bit of a project, thus the reason he only has a few midmajor offers this late. And as mentioned, Farr is most likely headed to prep school or juco.
                Nance-

Corbin Thomas is 6-6 if you want to be generous, and is still developing --
he went from just 3 ppg/2 rpg as a freshman at SWIC to 14 ppg/7 rpg this past season --
I sure hope our staff also stays on MO as he is the same kind of solid, tough kid who will have a much better soph year at juco..

Isiah Nunn also goes to SWIC. I recall BU recruiting him but he had offers from Big 10 schools. Has he committed anywhere? If not, don't we have an open spot for a SG/SF?

What kind of year did Mo have and do you know if there is still any interest from either party?

I like the fact that we are going after a power forward as that is something that we very much need!
                            Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Nunn is an enigma and there's enough to make lots of recruiters very skeptical...he has fallen way off...he finished up HS in 2008 and then completely disappered for one year only to surface at SWIC in 2009-2010...
his first year there he struggled with injury and only averaged 2.8 ppg/2 rpg...

Then this past season 2010-2011, he didn't do a lot better...4.9 ppg/2.6 ppg...but again had injuries that prevented him from playing a lot in the 2nd half of the season.......
So---- if he can get his associates degree now -- he may possibly be able to go D-I but with those numbers is he going to get any interest??

He has morphed from a high potential wing player into a SG trying to play PF and yet still puts up pretty unimpressive numbers.
