I couldn't disagree more. 95% of kids in Division I sports pick the schools because of the coach. I did it when I went to play football. My teammates who played with me at the D-I level did it. You don't want to play for someone you don't feel like know and I don't blame Remy one bit for transferring. I wish the kid the very best and think he handled the whole situation with complete class.
Also, from the perspective of Remy's mom, you want to feel good about leaving your kid with someone for four years. She obviously felt comfortable with Coach Les but - and this is nothing against Coach Ford - but they just don't know him.
We agree to disagree....and that's ok....That is the fun of forums like this.
RA, and his "family" chose BU and Coach Les from the choices he had at the time. When those choices expanded, RA and his "family" appear to be leaning to bigger profile schools...and RA/his family are now picking the coach from the bigger profile schools he can now choose from. JL was the determiner for his original options.
I still stand by my claim RA would have gone to BU under GF if he still had his original schools to choose from, and, RA, or more likely his "family" would not have been content staying at BU with JL if he had the school choices he now has. We'll never know for sure since about his preference/loyalty to JL, since JL/BU were not an option RA had to consider vs IU, Xavier, and Butler.
I also haven't heard from the RA camp, they are hoping/waiting for JL to land somewhere so RA could play for him.
Remy isn't coming to Bradley because Les isn't the coach. If Les were still the coach then Remy would be coming to BU. Remy said so himself. There is no agree to disagree - you are flat out wrong.
I think most can agree that is probably a bit of a mixture of both arguments. It was the perfect storm that happened. Two events had to take place here for him to not come to Bradley. #1 was the coach getting fired AS WELL AS #2 him getting offers from bigger schools.
I agree that if JL were here he would be playing for Bradley and perfectly content with it. He would be content because he made a commitment to JL and he wants to honor it even though there may be that tiny thought in the back of his mind of "well if I would've held out I would've gotten bigger offers....but that's okay". Plus there is no legitimate reason to get out of his commitment if JL isn't fired soooo....
But JL did get fired so that was his opportunity to jump to a bigger program. Did he want that to happen so he could go to a bigger school...probably not...but now this was his chance to have a reason to break the commitment and go to the big schools that were ignoring him at first. He's not exactly happy about JL being fired but he's happy that he can go to a bigger school.
I sincerely believe this is the case...in which...both sides are correct. Remy isn't going to play where JL coaches so his de-commitment wasn't 100% JL. Obviously, he is going to tell anybody and everybody it was because he wanted to play for JL...what else is he going to say..."uhhh i broke my LOI because part of me wants to go to a bigger school"?? No! On the other hand he would've been here had JL been here because he was committed; simple as that. It doesn't have to be so black and white as people are making it. He saw it as an opportunity..he probably liked Ford..but thought this was something he had to pursue...maybe he even saw it as a sign, since I hear he's religious, to check out other opportunities....However, one has to believe that if Bradley was still his biggest offer and Ford went to visit him like he did he'd still be planning on coming to Bradley. And you know he can't say that in public.."well I would have stayed with Bradley if they were my biggest offer.."

Then I'll be looking for Remy at UC-Davis or wherever Les ends up...
Please. Remy is an honorable kid, and he would have kept his commitment if not for Coach Les' firing. Kids today simply don't see anything wrong with renegging if the coach they committed to gets fired. Plus, Bradley promised to release him, which they would not have been quick to do if not fo the coaching change. He has had people all year telling him to drop Bradley and go higher, but he never came close to wavering on his commitment until the firing of Coach Les. If he was going to decommit anyway, he would have done it earlier when many more schools had more scholarships available.
There will be people who will believe whatever they want, maybe to justify their concept that there isn't any "fallout" from the coaching change. Others will be more realistic.
Then I'll be looking for Remy at UC-Davis or wherever Les ends up...
If not, I'd say AZ BU Fan is dead on correct.
Right if Les suddenly became coach at ICC Remy would have to follow him there for me and others to be right... I can't tell if you're joking around or if you really believe what you type.
It is a long article with quotes from Remy's high school coach, but it appears to be a premium article.
Here are a couple clips-
"I have a former assistant coach that's now retired and it's my assumption he was bringing Remy up today for an unofficial visit," said Couch. "I would say if they're not there now, they're pretty close to being there. Just a quick trip up."
"The Indiana visit is the first one that he's gotten squared away but there are five schools that we faxed his information to," said Couch. "I don't know if he'll visit them all but I do know that he wants to make multiple visits. Penn State, Butler, Western Kentucky and Xavier are the other four."
As a senior this winter, Abell averaged 16 points and 2.7 assists per game and shot over 55% from the floor. He helped lead Eastern to a 33-3 record and the team advanced all the way to the final four of the Kentucky State Tournament in March. Abell is not a member of the Rivals150 for the Class of 2011. "He's really a combo guard," said Couch. "He played the two for us, at least in the way we ran our sets. We had a 5-foot-11 guard, a pretty good little player, that ran the point for us. And we had a point guard off the bench, so we liked to keep Remy at the two spot so he would have an opportunity to score more. But late in most of our big games he would slide over and play the one and had the ball in his hands much of the fourth quarter because he's such an excellent decision maker. He's also such a great free throw shooter and good at creating his own shot." "I think he has the capabilities to play both, a true one-two combo for the collegiate level. He'll fit in wherever they need him to be. I've heard (assistant) coach (Tim) Buckley say they like the fact that he's a combo guard. That they could do a few different things with him." A nice shooting stroke helps that versatility. "I think he's a career 80% free throw shooter in his four years here for us and he's always been a really good three-point shooter," said Couch. "He's about a 54% career shooter total and around mid-30's from three-point range."
"Something that we talked about was that his first official visit in the fall was to Bradley and he really got excited about it. He took another visit but we talked about how he should have probably taken a few more visits." The Hoosier pull, however, could be a tough one to ignore for long. "Obviously he likes Indiana a lot, the tradition," said Couch. "He and I talked about how there are just a handful of programs that are considered blue-bloods or Cadillacs, or whatever you want to call them, and Indiana is one of them.
Please feel free to add content or information about any of Bradley's recruits. There is no rule that requires me to be the only one posting info. But there are some fans who want to know what happens with Remy.

Your wrong...the right combination of the coach and the school is what got Remy in the 1st place...Les and Bradley...but when you remove the coach you remove one of the two top ingredients...lets say Les moved up to say Louisville...you think Remy might take a look at that?
Its a decision based on Ingredients and the Coach is the number 1 ingredient..

Sounds like the kid either made an impulsive decision, and fell in love with Bradley on his first campus visit.
OR
Can't make out the intention of the second sentence, but it sounds like he either made a second visit to Bradley and realized he wasn't as smitten the second time around, or his second visit to another school made him realize that he had options.
AND/OR
The direct comment that "we talked about how HE should have probably taken a few more visits, seems like at some point (maybe the JL situation being up in the air) RA and Company decided that they were locked into a potentially bad situation, and were already second guessing the commitment/LOI. Or that he had people whispering in his ear to look at other options.
Either way seems like this kid was commited like a guy with a girlfriend, but he still had eyes for someone else. He wasn't going to the prom alone either way. It was either with his long time girl, or if the opportunity presented itself with the new popular girl.

Over 1000 kids commit to D1 basketball schools every year, and thousands more to other levels of colleges, and in other sports. They all have their reasons, and I am not going to try to dissect and parse every word spoken by the kids, their coaches, or advisors to try to explain each case.
But, it seems that some people have the ability to do this to create some scenario that serves their purposes.
