Limestone is to the Mid Illini what PND is to the MS 6. Yes Limestone has had Thome, Dunne, Wikoff, Schwindenhammer, etc. but PND's baseball program in the 90s and early-mid 2000s was a pretty d@mn good program. But that was before your time 45, I would expect what you saw in your time at PND as a baseball program why you would think that though.

FWO, PM Me if you want my opinions on the current state of the baseball program....
ok. I will. I've been hearing that the team could be good this year.

Limestone's school district is adjacent to Peoria Manual's and has recently become a safe haven for Peoria Central cast aways. There is tremendous potential at this school to become a Mid-Illini power.

PND has won 2 Regional titles in its school's history and won't get back to where they were this year any time soon as the cupboard is now empty. This was just a special situation where they had the best player in the area and a nice complement of key transfers (Molinari and Blumenshine). Rest assured, they can not consistently compete with Richwoods, Central, and Manual as these teams just reload as there is just so much talent in the city. Eddie Matthews realizes this and going to a school where he can field a competitive team every year.

I was wondering if he would hold out for the Richwoods job. I really like Will Smith, as everyone who has dealt with him knows he is a really nice guy. However, I have my doubts as to whether Richwoods will take the "interim" away from him title. He was put in a tough situation this year and handled it rather well, IMO. He is still young and loves coaching so much that in spite of the fact that he has an MBA from Bradley, he's will to be a Study Hall Monitor just to have the opportunity to coach.

I'm guessing Hank will follow his father to Limestone?

You can bet Hank will be coached by Eddie. You can take that to the bank.

This is from the PJStar article:

Mathews, 50, and his wife, Stephanie, have six boys, ages 2 to 19. Their children include Hank Mathews, a key reserve as an ND sophomore last season. He will transfer to Limestone after the school year, his father said.

???Our family will stay together and we??™ll do this move as a family,??? Eddie Mathews said. ???We??™ll look to find a place out in that area.???

Just a great move by Limestone to get Mathews. This will be a huge upgrade over the previous coach (Sparrow). Structure, fundamentals, disipline, etc will all improve. I think Limestone has at least 7 grade schools that feed in kids. Its not as good as district 150 in basketball but still has alot of upside.

I am positive the pay and pension opportunity far excede what he was making at Notre Dame so it was a good move for him. I did read that his son Hank will also go to Limestone. He is a very talented baseball and basketball. Watch for him to get offers in both sports in 2 years.

Let me get this, more pay, better retirement benefits and he has a big family. So why would he not take the job? I wish him luck!

He has had a cumulative record at Limestone of 127-136. His best season was 2012-13 when they went 26-10 and finished 3rd in the Class 3A playoffs with a team that included his son Hank. Eddie is 58 years old, and was a key member of the 1982 Bradley NIT Championship team. Eddie, a native of Brimfield, also pitched for the Bradley baseball team and spent 7 seasons in the Atlanta Braves system as a pitcher-

Eddie’s Dad, Don was a heck of a basketball player at Peoria Spalding, but for some reason couldn’t get much playing time by Forddy Anderson at Bradley.
