    ND's Matthews headed to Limestone

Kind of a puzzling move. I'm sure Limestone is paying him more than ND. But as far as basketball goes, Limestone is a downgrade. ND just had their best season in history so it seems odd that he would be leaving simply for the money.

His wife doesn't work, and he has a whole flock of kids.
He's been looking for a pay raise for years.

dont forget, its high school and the pension options probably had something to do with it, not sure but does PND teachers have a contract or are they "at will" employees? that alone is enough,
Lets surrender ..... Chesty Puller.... "H*$$ NO !!! we have the enemy right where we want them they can't hide"

They get paid squat and work at will. Many teachers are retired from a local school district and just like teaching.

Still a touchy subject in some peoples minds, including mine. It was 2004 when that happened btw.

Any public school job is a pay increase over PND for any position. This is speculation, so take it for what its worth as one mans opinion, but I wouldnt be shocked to see Hank Mathews end up playing for his dad at limestone and the move not being just for basketball reasons either because Hank is one heck of a baseball player, well he was not sure if he is playing for PND now or if he is focusing on just basketball?

As a former player(not basketball)/student of Coach Mathews, I wish him the best!

Limestone IS a baseball school, so you may be right about that. I don't know about Mathews' son playing baseball, but the baseball program is the pride of Limestone sports.

The article in the PJStar said that the family was looking for a house in the Limestone area and that Hank would be going there.

ND will graduate virtually everyone from this year's team and will be going back to being very average as they have been for the last 25 years. Possibly a lateral move, but certainly not a backwards move. I'm sure this played into Eddie's decision to leave ND as well.

I could be mistaken but I have heard he had offers for more money before. I just think it is interesting that after 9 years of being mediocre, he has a historic season, and leaves.

I don't believe it has anything to do with what he has coming back. I think it is all about his future $$$$$ and that makes perfect sense. The pay at ND is no where near that of a public school. Not even close. Makes it an easy chose. Tickled to death to have Eddie as a Rocket.

Not any more, but it used to be on par.

Limestone is to the Mid Illini what PND is to the MS 6. Yes Limestone has had Thome, Dunne, Wikoff, Schwindenhammer, etc. but PND's baseball program in the 90s and early-mid 2000s was a pretty d@mn good program. But that was before your time 45, I would expect what you saw in your time at PND as a baseball program why you would think that though.

FWO, PM Me if you want my opinions on the current state of the baseball program....
