The NCAA rule allows an athlete to have 4 years of eligibility in a 5 year span. Taylor Brown used a redshirt season at Bevill Junior College prior to coming to Bradley. So this past year can't be used as another redshirt year, unless he is granted a 6th year like Sam Singh was.

            • If ANYONE has received a medical waiver to allow them to play a 6th year...wouldn't you think TB would receive one for last year?

I know you can't assume anything with the NCAA, but I would think TB's situation is the perfect example of a medical waiver. JMO.

The rule to live by is that you can never figure out what the NCAA will do by thinking logically.
Taylor's first year, in which he was credited for a "redshirt" year may not have been documented as a medical redshirt. If not, it might make the NCAA less likely to grant a 6th year. They usually do it when there are 2 separate years lost to documented medical problems.

I cannot find an example at mid-major where a 6th year was given unless two years were lost to separate medical issues - Which is not the case with TB.

                  • You are right, it is exceedingly rare. 6th year waivers are a lot more common in football than basketball, but after several minutes of searching, I can only find 1 example where it was granted to a football player who did not lose 2 years to injury.

I'm just assuming that he won't but hoping that the NCAA will actually set a good precedent by rewarding Bradley and Taylor for doing the proactive, responsible thing with those tests. A player shouldn't lose a year under these circumstances.

                      • I really don't want to turn this negative but I do have a question, since he only has one year left, does that essentially mean if he would transfer then he would lose his last season? or can he transfer sit out a year and still have one left?

                          • I'm so happy to read this news. Dyricus has a chance to become one of the best players in the conference.

I take it some on here aren't that high on Donivine but I believe he is such a high IQ, polished player that he is capable of starting at PG from day one and will complement DSE rather nicely in the backcourt.

                            • I like Donivine and I am convinced in time the fans will see how good he is ...although as good as Andrew Warren and Sam Maniscalco are -- there were still amazingly some fans who complained endlessly and didn't appreciate them at all.. and were quite negative

                              • donivine stewart

Stewart will be one of the best point guards BU has ever had, I have known him and watched him play since he was in 3rd grade. He is not flashy, not going to put on a show, but he has a very high basketball IQ and has that sense of whats going to happen and where to be that just cannot be coached. When he came out of Pleasant Valley several thought he would not be as good in high school, well he was better. Now coming into BU some have concerns, please remember he comes in as the all time leading scorer from the Mid Illini Conference. This conference produce some familiar names, Roth, Crouch Simms just for a couple recent ones. He will play to the level, and I predict finish as one of career assist leaders
