I guess we have a chance since we now have the coach who landed the kid...

Here's what the local paper at Kent State just said this morning...

"KSU has verbal commitments from 6-foot-7 Wabash Valley Community College standout Chris Evans
and 6-foot-4 guard Kris Brewer, who was a high school standout in Memphis and now plays at
Brehm Preparatory School in Carbondale, Ill.

According to a sources close to Evans, who is a presumptive starter at small forward for KSU in 2011-12,
other schools have been sniffing around the junior-college standout ever since Geno Ford left KSU last week
to become head coach at Bradley University. USC recently visited Evans and Marshall University is believed
to have attempted to convince him to visit its campus this weekend.

Both Evans and Brewer are waiting to see how the coaching search shakes out.
Evans was recruited by assistant coach Bobby Steinberg. It was a coup for Steinberg and KSU, considering Evans
was just named First Team Junior College All-American. Brewer was recruited by assistant coach Jordan Mincy,
who, like Brewer, is a Memphis native.
Steinberg and Mincy are both expected to remain on staff should KSU choose to promote longtime assistant
and current interim head coach Rob Senderoff.

It’s unlikely KSU would be able to keep either Evans or Brewer if it selects another candidate."

Chris Evans has a YouTube video-
This dunk by Wabash Valley College Warrior Chris Evans in a game at Moberly becomes the top play for the day on ESPN's SportsCenter.

He is a Theron Wilson-type of player- averaged 19.5 ppg, and 8.2 rpg at Wabash. He shot 55.7% from the field, and 74% on FTs, but just 30.4% on threes.

It'd be nice to get Evans but my main concern is a legitimate 3 point threat. I can't think of a single person on this team that I would really really want to take a 3 pointer at the end of the game to tie/win it. Would've hands down been SM but now who is it? It seems interesting that we didn't have anyone lined up to take the reigns..we had AW to carry it from JC..now we are at a loss. I'd say that be a good juco-get, find someone that can shoot high 30 percentile from deep; easier said than done though.

I agree that shooting might be an issue, but I would like to have a team that scores a lot of transition buckets, scores inside, and kills the glass for a change. Isn't Milos supposed to be able to shoot the ball? Donivine can hit a 3. DSE can hit a 3. The more big athletic bodies we can add, the better IMO. This guy looks like a player.

As far as taking the last shot, I think that's a pretty easy one if DSE decides to stay at BU...

Yeah I agree with most of what you said, but even in w/e new offense we play, I don't see Milos being any more than a 10 min./game type player and that isn't typically who you have shooting to win it. I was going to write DSE in my last post but if you think about it again you don't feel AS confident in it as you would a JC or a AW taking a three, you know? I think we should be able to get to the basket with the best of them since we have guys like DSE, TB, even JE but I'm a bit worried about our ability to spread the floor with a lights out 3 point threat, jmo. Don't get me wrong I'd be happy if we get Evans, but if Geno is pretty sure Evans isn't coming it's time to start recruiting a talented freshmen 3 pointer that he believes can contribute right away and somehow hasn't been picked up already or a Juco shooting guard.

Yeah, I think we're on the same page.

Personally, I find myself always yearning for a team with the shooting ability of the '07 team, but with big men to boot. In reality, teams that shoot like the '07 are very, very hard to come by and it's unrealistic for me to expect us to be able to put that many good shooters out there at once. I guess my view is that if we can ever get to the point of having teams respect, fear, and game plan against stopping us inside, the shooting will eventually take care of itself even if we don't have that JC-type on the roster.
