  • Some Surprises in Tuesday's Exhibition Games

Most teams playing exhibitions won easily over weak D-II's and D-II's but there were a few surprises.

Emporia State held right even with Kansas up 'til halftime, 41-37.
Then in the 2nd half, all the Emporia big men got a lot of fouls and fouled out, and Kansas won easily.

When a basketball team has nothing to lose in the present, it's pointless to be concerned with the future.Nowhere was that more evident for Emporia State than the foul column, where the Hornets' two starting forwards hacked themselves right out of the game 30 minutes into the 90-55 Kansas University exhibition basketball victory Tuesday night.

Herb Sendek's Arizona State Sun Devils barely squeaked by Victoria 58-53

NC State allowed St Augustine to stay closer than they wanted in their 87-76 win.

Wake Forest likewise struggled in a 68-60 win over DII North Carolina Central (who will move to DI in one or two years).
This game was within 3 pts in the final minute or so.

Missouri Kansas City (DI) lost to Park Univ. (NAIA) 103-99

Lastly, Dan Monson, Jim Molinari, and Minnesota are not taking Winona State lightly.
They know how good they are.

    Here is another article--
Each of the leading U.S. Senate candidates granted The Minnesota Daily an opportunity to get answers for some of the most pressing questions on college voters’ minds.

The interesting thing in this article is the reference to Bradley. They cite that Winona State played at Bradley and they say this--

In the Warriors' Wednesday exhibition game against Bradley - which went to the Elite Eight in last season's NCAA Tournament - Smith poured in 20 points and 12 rebounds.

So I missed that. Bradley must have beaten Memphis last March?

Lewis University hung tough against UIC and was within 2 points with 7 seconds left in the game, but fell 67-62.

Here's one that didn't get mentioned in the press until this morning, and understandably.

SEC power AUBURN lost at home in an exhibition game to NAIA Auburn University-Montgomery (AUM) 69-64.
This is quite an embarrassment to Auburn head coach Jeff Lebo.

In the Kansas/Emporia game, Sherron Collins scored 20 points.
Not bad for a point guard, but in 32 minutes of play in a 90-55 blowout, he had only 2 assists, none in the 2nd half when he played 15 of the 20 minutes against Emporia's deep subs.
KU missed 41 shots as a team as 134 of the 200 minutes were played by the starters.

            Too much talent

Obviously, KU has too much talent. When it's all about Me Me Me and you take machine-gun shots your shooting percentage is going to stink!

Good luck BS in reigning in your KU superstars! If BS can't get these boys to play as a team and accept their roles then they will dramatically underachieve. Sometimes this is a good way to find out if a coach can really "coach" (x's & o's).

Coach K and Roy Williams and a few others can reign in their talent and make them play as a team. We'll see if BS can do. Failing to beat Bucknell and us the last two years tells me he cannot coach!
