I know we can't use the Brave mascot anymore, and I still don't agree with that, but I can say we are the Braves and, IMO, nothing else makes sense.
    Fear the Fork!

Just to add something here, ASU worked in conjunction with Nike to redesign their uniforms, logo etc... ---not sure how much I like that idea if I am affiliated with the school---

I agree.. Regardless of how anyone feels, we are not going to be able to have a mascot with even a remote hint of a Native American connotation. It's time to move on... However, I do favor a mascot that is a play on the word "Braves"... We need to do something and do it the right way, as the current logo sucks!

but wiz -- all those same alibis were totally discounted in other cases of NCAA schools using the same imagery -- and only when the Seminole nation make a pact with the school (and in return to garner some of the cash money that comes from the sales of items) did they grant their approval for their use.

Remember how schizoid and hypocritical they are when they outlaw some but allow others like Hawkeye, Illini, Tribe, Utes, Chippewas, Redhawks, etc...
They also allow other racial, religious, and ethnic groups to be treated precisely as they claim it is UNFAIR to treat NA's....groups such as Deacons, Irish, Mountaineers, Governors, Gents, Matadors, Dukes, Colonels, Paladins, Patriots, Crusaders, Gaels, Minutemen, Cowboys, Raiders, Warriors, Rebels, Midshipmen, Cadets, Musketeers, Boilermaker, and that's not to mention the other mascots like Pistol Pete and the dumb Purdue guy...

at least Elon got rid of their mascot, the Fighting Christian, without a fight...

BTW -- Harvard -- who call themselves the "Crimson" actually have as their mascot,
        a silly caricature of a white, middle-aged, Anglo-Saxon male

I am offended and I want justice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's the one I like best -- too bad someone beat us to it...the
        D-II Williams Purple Cows...

t---I understand what you are saying. However, FSU has had a large schloarship program for Seminole students and conducted summer school classes for Seminole children long before the issue of indian mascots and imagery began.
Additionally, the other difference is that FSU honored a specific indian tribe from their state with the approval and encouragement of that tribe.
On the other hand, "Hawkeyes" are not a specific tribe and Sioux indians are spread out all over the U.S. in many tribes.
I believe FSU was fortunate in their closeness with the Seminole Nation.
Also, they had the guts to take a strong stand believing that their cause was right. Most schools didn't have any kind of strong past history linking them to their imagery and they caved in to the NCAA rather that fight.

My brother always used to joke about calling a Peoria CBA team the Peoria Prestidigitators, so maybe we could roll with that. The Bradley Prestidigitators.

The Seminoles get revenue and scholarships from Florida State University, so of course they approve of the use of the name and imagery.
However, the Indian imagery (the spear, feathers, face paint, etc) used by FSU is not specific nor unique to the Seminoles. Virtually all other tribes and native American groups are offended by and opposed to the use of such imagery as a mascot and logo. So if the NCAA was truly consistent with their supposed reasons for their stance on this, they would not make exceptions like FSU just because a single tribe approves it. The fact that they do is clearly an indication of their hypocrisy, unfairness, and inconsistency.

Do you have a source for this statement? I've heard something similar.

Coach, do you really expect consistency from the NCAA?

yes, it is actually well documented that they use those insignias and emblems only by permission from the Seminole nation --as I noted they don't grant the same rights to the high schools who cannot play the fees

I'm asking for a source that the Seminoles have been paid. If it is well documented, then you shouldn't have any trouble finding a source. Just sayin...
