Bradley mascot

I think I was riding a dead horse. I am no longer interested in my idea for Bradley pride. I still have pride in Bradley, but pride in the current sports image concept has lost appeal.



I downloaded the video showing the installation of the four new gargoyles on the Harden Clark Alumni Center and have viewed it several times. Knowingly or unwittingly the university makes the case for gargoyles (or images of gargoyles) to represent both the history and more importantly the future of the university. The multiple stone gargoyles will be there for decades to come. History that is usable trumps history that has been outdated or banned.

If you look carefully at my rendition of a BU image it includes a historic and future gargoyle, the iris of the eye has a clock in it, and the gargoyle also has a feather (it's just not a North American eagle feather). I think that covers all the bases.

I like the clock in the eye... Something about that logo feels very retro somehow. Not sure what it is... Need to look at it longer to see if I like it.

But, perhaps our "BU" needs to look a little more gothic instead of so rounded.

I like the gargoyle in your avatar much better SFP. No offense intended to anyone, but the larger gargoyle graphic does not look right......

The Arizona State Sun Devils have changed their logo and there is no more Sun Devil on their uniforms. It has been replaced with only the pitchfork. The Sun Devil will remain as the mascot though. Some fans are complaining saying we are the Sun Devils not the Pitchforks. I know we can't use the Brave mascot anymore, and I still don't agree with that, but I can say we are the Braves and, IMO, nothing else makes sense.

It draws parallels to Indians...which is exactly what we need to avoid when on probation. If we aren't on probation anymore then it might be the thing that gets us put on probation again.

I get what the issue was... But I think Bradley could go through the NCAA to make sure they are okay with it. A tomahawk is not, on its own, any more offensive than a "sun devil."

The key, to me, is you've taken the characterization out of the native American imagery. no more "person" involved.

I don't think the NCAA would allow a tomahawk, especially since Bradley, in order to keep the name Braves, made the promise to the NCAA they would forever avoid using any native American imagery.

William and Mary only had a couple innocuous feathers in their logo, and it was enough for the NCAA demand they remove them-

if this was truly about principal then there would be NO allowable circumstance to offend Native Americans with these logos, right?

A tomahawk is 99.9% Native American.....so why wouldn't there be a problem? you would be depicting a NA weapon. Insinuating violence among NA's

Lets put Teepees, feathers, head dresses, bows and arrows, wigwams, and NA language on everything

t---You are not quite correct in your statement that the Fla. State mascot matter was resolved by or influenced by money. Here's what really happened:

1. A few years ago, Michael Hainey, the anti indian mascot activist met with Florida State officials including the President in an attempt to eliminate the FSU Seminole Tribe Imagery, mascots, etc. The FSU President invited the Seminole Nation tribal council leaders including their Chairman to also attend.
2. The tribal council Chairman pointed out that the Seminole Tribe very much favored and were honored by the FSU/Seminole relationship. He reminded Hainey that FSU had a scholarship program for Seminole students and that they conducted special classes for young Seminole children.
3. He pointed out that the Seminole mascot riding the horse was a replica of his great great Grandfather Chief Osceola. and that the mascots headress and clothing was a replica of Osceolas original and in fact,was sewn by the wives of the Seminole Tribal Council.
4. Finally, he explained that the council and most of the tribe were avid FSU fans.
5. FSU then reviewed this entire matter with the NCAA and said they would keep the Seminole imagery and would strongly oppose with legal action, any NCAA attempt to force a change.
6. Today the FSU Seminole is alive and well and may be the most exciting and well known mascot in Div. I athletics.
