Payne could probably do well in a lesser league, but it depends on who's in his ear and how good they're telling him he is.
As far as Cully goes, he is cut out for a methodical, slower paced offense because he doesn't make fast decisions. His shot is suspect, but he is a good passer and ball handler, and an above average defender. I bet he is a solid 10/4/3 type of player at the mid-major level, and an all-conference player in a lower level school somewhere in the Summit Conference.#DunkOnYou

Cully will have just 3 choices if he wants to play college ball..
-play D-II so he can play right away - but I can't believe he'd do this as he's always aimed way high every time he's rethought his choices and he's started every game of his college career so I am sure he's expecting to continue that trend somewhere at D-I
-request an immediate eligibility waiver and hope the NCAA let's him play right away wherever he goes - longshot unless he knows someone at NCAA
-or sit out another year and hope to play at D-I level in 2012
..this is indeed an odd time to transfer and hurts himself and his team who are now left with a scholarship that they will have to scramble to fill for next fall.

I am good friends with a guy whose kid played AAU with Justin. He seemed like a good kid and dad was pretty nice guy. I had always wished that it had worked out better for him.
I remember being at Sonny Vacaro's ABCD camp all-star game and seeing Justin do some wonderfully entertaining globetrotter-type dribbling. But it was stuff you can't do in a real game. Maybe he should have hit the And 1 circuit.

here's an interesting rumor...
Cully Payne - when he decommitted from DePaul -- then verballed to Alabama and head coach Mark Gottfired..
when Gottfired was fired at Alabama - Cully decommitted and landed at Iowa...
now there's some rumor that since Mark Gottfried was just hired at NC State -- that Cully may head there....he'd have to wait out a year and have only one year left unless he gets the NCAA waiver...

Transferring Iowa point guard Cully Payne told James Henderson of PackPride.com that he's considering some schools closer to his home in Illinois, but it sounds as if a connection to new NC State coach Mark Gottfried could put the Wolfpack atop his list of a scholarship is offered.
"There's a few schools I'm looking at," Payne said. "A lot of the Chicago schools I'm looking at, which are close to home, and I know my guy coach Gottfried took the job at NC State. That is a possibility too. As of now though, I'm really open."
Payne, who has yet to hear from NC State, originally committed to Alabama out of high school while Gottfried was still there. Once Gottfried resigned in 2008, however, Payne was released from his scholarship and chose to attend Iowa. But it sounds like if given the opportunity, he'd still like to play for Gottfried.
"Hopefully I can talk to coach Gottfried about their situation at NC State here real soon," said Payne. "I'd like to find out how strong of an option that could be for me. I think I could be talking to him any day now, but I want to be clear in that I haven't talked to him yet.
I'm not sure he's the kind of player that helps NC State get back into the mix in the ACC.Onward and Upward!

More than any other leagues, the SEC and ACC are loaded with big guards. IMO, he would be way overmatched playing in the ACC. I would be surprised if Gottfried would offer a scholarship that would tie up possible 2 years for only 1 serason of play.
