  • LOI Day just hours away...What a class!

Let's hope we get some good news from the Hilltop, with the receiving of LOI's from DeAaron Williams, Sam Maniscalco, Will Egolf, Anthony Thompson, and maybe a suprise for the last scholarship!

FWIW - I don't know of any new late commits, I am just hopeful we'll pull a rabbit out of our hat yet again.

These guys are going to be fun to watch. Anyone want to take a shot at the starting lineup next year with the kids we know are going to be there.

    Williams
    Fears
    Ruffin
    Sam S.
    Thompson

You never know who will be here but with what we know now this is mine.

I don't know if Singh is ever going to be a 20+ minute guy again considering the condition of his knee. As of right now, Thompson seems like a project that might be a while away (POB was the same way, just hard to project). I'm going with something like this -

        Ruffin
        Fears
        Brown/Williams
        Salley
        JUCO big

However, with our tremendous depth at guard, I coud see us playing a CU-type lineup, and a 4 guard motion set.

        Ruffin
        Fears
        Williams
        Brown
        Salley

        Any word on the LOI's?

Thompson a project? I thought he was rated the 102nd best High Schooler in the nation. That doesn't sound like a project to me but I've been wrong before just ask my wife.

I can't say one way or the other since I have never seen him play. I've heard and read varying reports. The lead writer at Scout.com thinks he's probably a year or 2 away, the guy at ChicagoHoops.com thinks he's an impact guy. Athletically, he could play right away. I think the reason most consider him a 'project' is because of his weight (or lack thereof), and perhaps some lack of offensive refinement. I think it might be a little premature to pencil him in right away as a starter, but it also might be premature to pencil him in as a redshirt/project too.

It would not be right to label Thompson a project. There is a big difference between a kid with a huge upside, and a "project" (except to the uninformed). A project is not likely to play or contribute for a couple years, if ever. AT has significant skills, and will play a big role next year.

What about Andrew Warren. The main thing is it will be nice to have questions about who will start because it will mean that BU will be deep again.

AW and JC will definitely be in the mix, which is why I see us running a lot of 3 and 4 guard sets.

I think Sam Maniscalco is a good redshirt candidate next year, with Ruffin and Fears manning the point guard position.

                      BradleyBrave,

I know what you are saying about the 4 guard set and I don't disagree so much, although I would like to see some bigger, stronger, faster players in the lineup. I think to fet to the Sweet 16 again it would help to have bigger players. That said, it will just be nice to have more quality players at any and all positions. I think it helped last year to have a smaller drop off if any when the bench came in the game.

I know what you're saying in regards to bigs. At guard, we're going to be as big as just about any team in the country. Aside from Ruffin at 5'10", we have Maniscalco at 6'1", Fears at 6'4", Williams at 6'4", JC at 6'5", Warren at 6'5", and Brown at 6'7". That's as big as just about any backcourt you'll find anywhere. Now, I am in total agreement that we need some major impact bigs to make a run back to the Sweet 16 and beyond. Matt Salley is a nice player, but probably a bench player on a good team. He's pretty much the same size as Ray Brown. Sam Singh is a big question mark, and we'd be asking an awful lot and probably setting ourselves up for failure if we were depending on two true freshmen. We need a big (preferably 6'10" and up) immediate-impact guy to really make this team complete.

                          Egolf

I got a funny feeling we're not hearing the full story on this Alaska kid.

Got a feelin' he's gonna come in and knock our socks off! Can you say MVC Freshman of the Year!

I can't say that without ever seeing him play.

However, I think we have a good chance to have the Newcomer of the Year with Jeremy Fears and DeAaron Williams suiting up for the Braves next year.
