  • Final AP/Coaches Poll question

Usually there is little doubt that the winner of the tournament is also voted #1 in the year's final polls. Because usually the winner is a 1, 2 or maybe 3 seed.

Looking ahead a couple of days, if Butler wins, do you think they'll be voted #1 in the final polls? Do you think they'll be unanimous? I'm not sure of the history of this, and I know it really doesn't matter. Just wondered if y'all think the power conference writers could bring themselves to vote for an 8-seed middy with 9 losses as the best team in the country.

I really hope Butler has one more in them.....and it would be so sweet to beat a Big East darling in the final game.

Well, who the heck ARE they going to vote #1? None of the 1s or 2s even got to the final four.

I can already predict the final AP poll:

    1) winner of the final game
    2) loser of the final game
    3) Kentucky
    4) Ohio St (lost to Kentucky)
    5) VCU
    6) Kansas (lost to VCU)
    7) Pittsburgh
    Arizona
    9) Duke
    10) North Carolina

If they win Monday, Butler will have to leap over 32 other teams to get to #1.

Butler did not win their conference outright. It was a 3-way tie. Their record is now 28-9, after winning 5 straight games in the NCAA Tournament.
The last AP Top 25 did not include Butler. They were 8th in teams also receiving votes. So they were 33rd in the AP poll.
They also did not make the Top 25 in the USA Today/ESPN poll- they were 11th in teams also receiving votes to rank 36th.
And they did not rank in the Top 25 in the RPI rankings- they were 33rd.

Agreed about VCU. I can see them finishing even worse than 5th, maybe even 7th or 8th knowing these voters!

And Pittsburgh has no business finishing anywhere in the top 10! Maybe 12 or 13 based on their Big East performance, but no higher.

Not sure why why Pitt wouldn't belong. Their resume would be better than most. They didn't lose a clunker all season.

Boo, I was wrong. They snuck Kansas a couple higher than I thought.

Ohio St gets one stray 1st place vote. Wichita St gets 20 votes, which seems about right.
