  • Assistant Coaches

Since it appears the other thread got deleted last night, I thought I'd start another one for any updates.

Once again if JC being let go is true, I am extremely disappointed.

It appears Senderoff has a good chance to be coach at Kent State according to this article. It says players all love him and might leave if he is not hired. They have a chance to be good next year too. If that is the case I wonder where we will find new assistants?

The other thread got deleted because we will not allow people to take shots at JC or at other coaching candidates.

No shots at JC or anybody else here. As I posted on that thread, it is only natural for a incoming coach with no personal ties to an existing staff, to want to start fresh. Especially when the incumbent staff presided over a last place team.

I agree a coach should be able to pick his staff. However I disagree with the supposed choice he made to get rid of a Brave in JC. It's his right to choose, I just think he made the wrong choice lol. If WS is staying then that is great news also as a Brave, but I wish he would keep on JC as well. Especially if Senderoff stays its not like his own guys would be coming anyway.

Also last year's staff had bascially 3 new guys with JC in his first full year. The team started to turn around towards the last month. Coaching staffs are not instant fixes. I hate to reiterate it as well, but we were a last place team without our two best players. The improvement guys like DSE and JP made was impressive. I think it is unfair to judge a staff in their first year as if they were a last place staff.

Would have loved to see JC stick around, but it's understandable why he's not being retained. It's unfortunate but it's part of the business. I think JC has a bright future in coaching should he continue on, and I hope someday that leads him back to BU in some capacity. If not, thanks for your service to the university and continued success in the future.

With all due respect, why would we want JC on the coaching staff? He has no coaching experience and event last year he was a go-fer. We need a talented staff who knows what they are doing. JC know his way around campus and is a great player who represented Bradley well ... But that's it.

-He is a great shooter and can work with guards and teach shooting.
-He is a class act and great representative for the university
-He was a great player and student for the university
-As a Bradley alum he has fan and community support as well as a knowledge of the school
-I've read where he was considered to have an exceptionally high basketball IQ
-He knows most of the current players
-He is a likable guy and as a former player can tell recruits a lot of things about the university
-He played professionally in Europe which may be of interest to players at Bradley, and gives him further knowledge as a coach
-By what people have said on here he brought more to the DOB role than is expected and did a good job
-I like having Bradley people on the staff to be promoted later
-Everyone has to start somewhere, what makes him bad other than lack of experience?

Maybe Butler should not have hired Brad Stevens at 29 or 30 or whatever he was as HEAD COACH because he did not have much experience and they needed a talented coach. JC spent just as many years as a player/DOB at Bradley as Stevens did at Butler as an assistant.

Assistant coach isn't a popularity contest.

Didn't say it was, it does not hurt to have popular coaches though. I also listed his basketball IQ, experience with the school, playing pro basketball in Europe, the good job he did as DBO and knowledge of the current players too if you read the list.

Director of Basketball Operations sounds like a job in which you would want a recent player who wants to learn the ropes of coaching. I know most new coaches want to bring in their own coaches. Guys who they are familiar with. I know that JC wants to be a coach and this gave him a good starting point. Here's hoping Geno rehires JC to that position.

The DBO is a lot more of a secretarial position than a coaching position. At most schools, the DBO is in charge of tasks like scheduling travel, hotels, and restaurant reservations, and paying bills.
