  • Creighton/Oregon CBI Final

Here's the radio feed for the rubber game of the CBI championship series against Oregon for those who are interested. Looks like the Bluejays are having their hands full as they are down 24-18 with around 6 minutes to go in the first half. Eight turnovers for Creighton already.

Go Bluejays and keep the "mid-major" championships coming!

CU now down 31-30 at the half. CU 0 for 4 on FT's though. Gotta get better on those!

Quite the game as CU is up 53-51 with 8:27 left. Let's see if the Bluejays can finish the job! Sounds like a pretty loud crowd at Oregon.

Creighton falls 69-71 on a last second jumper.

Unbelievable, Creighton loses after a backcourt violation caused by Oregon's ridiculously hard to see half court line.

Well nice try by the Bluejays, but they couldn't finish the job.

As Dave Snell always says. "free throws, free throws, free throws. You gotta make those free throws!"

Unfortunately, 15 out of 22 made free throws won't cut it, and because of that, Creighton has no one to blame but themselves for losing this championship.

And hard to see or not, they still have to know where the half court line is!

Watched the last few minutes on HDNET on Direct TV. Game was tied and Creighton had the ball with under 30 seconds to go. Creighton got called for over and back, not because they threw the ball in the back court but because they dribbled the ball into the back court. Without being forced to. I don't think I have ever seen a court where you had no idea where the center court line was. They showed the replay a couple of times and it was hard to tell . Oregon than scored with 2 seconds left and all Creighton could do was throw up a 70 foot desperation shot that fell short. Tough way to lose.

Should have been a video review.

There's a link to the video here. Quite an odd way for a game to turn. What's funny is that the ref had no idea he crossed midcourt either and then Oregon player had to point it out.

That's ridiculous. Even watching the replay I'm not sure he's over and back. I though the player and the ball had to be on the wrong side of the line? Or maybe that's just to satisfy the 10-second count?

No, once the player and the ball are fully into the front court, the midcourt line is just like a sideline or endline. If either the ball or the player while in contact with the ball touch any part of the line, it is a violation.

I used to think that court looked cool a year or two ago when the pictures first showed up. But when you can't see the mid-court line, that's terrible.

Plus, on the broadcast, I initially thought my TV was broken because the way the court showed up. Everything looks fuzzy.

Regardless -- congrats to Creighton -- may your fans appreciate your hard work and the extra games and not dis on you constantly for the next five years because you played in the aeiou tourney...

Also congrats to a fine player -- Kenny Lawson -- who ends his 5 years in the MVC (one redshirt year) with 1302 points, 755 rebounds, a career scoring average of 9.17 ppg, and a career rebounding average of 5.34 rpg.
Tough break for Kenny that the coaching chance cost him a ton of playing time....
