  • Bu brand strategic objectives?

With BU Coach Ford now set to begin the turnaround, I have to wonder about the Board of Trustees, President Glasser, and AD Cross' objectives if a substantial turnaround occurs not only in Braves basketball, but also baseball, continues in soccer, and migrates to the other athletic teams. Are these objectives in writing? unwritten but have been discussed amongst BU's leaders? Time will tell...

    My thoughts:

    PREVIOUS STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES ACCOMPLISHED ALREADY:

INFRASTRUCTURAL IMPROVEMENT IN ATHLETIC FACILITIES: FOR SOCCER, WOMENS' BASKETBALL, VOLLEYBALL, PRACTICE FACILITIES, TRAINING GYM, BASEBALL

    ONGOING OBJECTIVES:
COACHES MUST PERFORM / IMPROVE WINNING CONSISTENCY OF TEAMS OR ELSE WILL BE LET GO (MAYBE THEIR 4 YEAR RECORD?).

ATHLETIC ACADEMIC STANDARDS MUST BE MET.

    NEXT STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES:
ONCE WINNING OBJECTIVES ARE MET, THEN:

    MASCOT NAME SET...

ALONG WITH...WINNING BRINGS INCREASED MARKETING/AD/PRODUCT REVENUE VIA IMPROVED BU ATHLETIC BRANDING AND UNIV. RECOGNITION.

NEXT UP, NEW PRIVATE SCHOOL CONFERENCE AFFILIATION.

THEN COMES MODERATE INCREASES IN ENROLLMENT, INCREASED ENDOWMENT, MASTERS PROGRAMS, AND FURTHER CAMPUS EXPANSION.

WOULDN'T IT BE FUN TO BE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE THIS ALL OVER THE NEXT 5-7 YEARS? OR MAYBE I AM JUST DREAMING..

Dreaming, I think it will be a few years before gets approval from the City for any more expansion. Nor do I see that conference forming.

Why would we want to leave the MVC for an all private college?
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!
I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

Because this (non-football, private conference) is a better conference (I think for all involved):

        Bradley
        Butler
        Creighton
        Dayton
        DePaul
        Marquette
        St. Louis
        Xavier
Plus two of the following: Detroit Mercy, Drake, Evansville, Loyola Chicago, Valpo

Oops, sorry, I thought we were talking about like Horizon League or something. YES! All in favor of that! Only thing I would miss would be the ISU-BU rivalry. Think it would suffer because there wouldn't be any league points at stake. It'd be like if Man United got relegated but still played Liverpool/Man City. Wouldn't mean as much anymore. I'd take Drake with Valpo. Maybe keep Evansville. As long as we get good SOS, this could be a successful league.

One objective I think your missing is quality media coverage...primarily online.

They need quality online video of both live events and features. I know we don't have the budget of Notre Dame, but this is where all athletic programs are going.

If you don't have a TV deal...online coverage is crucial!

Also, I like the idea of basing a conference around academics and reputation. Look at the top 6 Midwest schools in the US News Regional rankings. This is the start of a darn good conference.

            1. Creighton
            2. Butler
            3. Drake
            4. Xavier
            5. Valparaiso
            6. Bradley

Round it out with Loyola, Dayton, SLU and maybe even Evansville .

Maybe I'm an elitist...but I'd rather be associated with highly regarded academic schools. Increase our reputation all around.

(I don't think Marquette and DePaul would leave the Big East)

Lastly, I'd like the administration to explore non-scholarship football and play in the Pioneer League against Drake and Butler.

STRONGY agree with the football. What would the venue be thought? Shea? Peoria Stadium? O'Brien Field? The Pekin High Stadium?

I don't know, Illinois/Missouri is still a huge rivalry game with a lot on the line. I think it would be more because you only have one shot at it a year.

They may not have a choice in a few years. Football is what drives the BCS and without you can become expendable. I'm betting that The Big East will probably implode the next few years because of football and all those nice basketball schools without one will need to build up a conference. There will be an east coast private school league and a mid-west one.

East Coast will be lead by Georgetown, Villanova, St. John

                  Mid-west Butler, DePaul, Marquette

The dollars for that are nowhere near realistic for us. THe University of Texas at San Antonio recently went through it and the numbers I heard were staggering....

                      Was it the NCAA membership?

I'd have to do some digging to find the articles again. My brother went to school down there, so when the big fundraising was going on the last few years, I heard about it and followed it then.

I believe the first season for them is this fall... all the players that were on campus this year redshirted. But between practice facilities, scholarships, stadium, equipment, coaches, etc... I thought I heard $100mm+

So I would imagine there's an NCAA standard. :/ I was hoping we could start in no scholarships and use BBall and local HS facilities and maybe existing stadiums.

What about a D-III football program like Eureka's? You could always work your way up after time...

I don't know all the rules, but I don't think the NCAA allows a school to be D1 in some sports, and DIII in another.
