PEORIA, Ill. -- Major League Soccer teams Colorado Rapids and Chicago Fire will battle at Bradley University's Shea Stadium in the qualifying round of the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Rapids are the defending MLS Cup champion and the Fire are four-time US Open Cup champions. Both teams are undefeated through the first two rounds of MLS regular-season play: Colorado is tied for first in the Western Conference standings with a 2-0-0 league record, while Chicago is second in the East with a 1-0-1 ledger.Presented by Mike Miller Kia
The lineups for Wednesday's game could feature two players with some local ties. Fire midfielder Baggio Husidic twice played against Bradley during his college career at Illinois-Chicago and was a starter when the Flames ended Bradley's NCAA record 24-game overtime unbeaten streak with a 2-1 victory Sept. 3, 2006 in Chicago. He also started UIC's 1-0 extra time win Sept. 29, 2007 at Shea Stadium. Meanwhile, Colorado defender Kosuke Kimura played his college soccer at Western Illinois, playing four games against Bradley (1-3), including three at Shea Stadium. The Leathernecks held on for a 3-2 win Oct. 17, 2006 at Shea Stadium to end a eight-game losing streak against Bradley.
