Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final
???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Geno Ford did win the MAC Conference two years in a row, but the MAC Conference has HALF of its teams with sub .200 RPI. Some WAY sub .200.Not exactly murders row, and he still lost 5-6 games in the regular season. The Flashes were the least worst of MAC regular season.
He never won the MAC Tournament which would have delivered an NCAA bid. In fact, he got taken out in the Quarter finals for the first two years and lost in the Finals this year. Because the quality of MAC basketball is so bad, it has one bid to the Dance. He never delivered in the MAC tourney, even after two regular season titles.
In Geno??™s three years post season years at Kent State, he was taken out in the first game of the CBI Tournament, lost in the second round of the NIT last year BADLY to an Illinois team, and made a nice run to the quarters this year. So, pretty nice payday for winning two road games in the NIT.
Bradley expects to win, so paid up. Kent State fans are kind of shocked about what one final appearance in a conference tourney and two NIT wins can but these days. A million bucks per NIT win is too rich for our blood.
Good luck to the Braves. I, for one, will be waiting to see what this amount of money can buy.

I, like many Kent State fans, am bitter about the way Coach Ford left. We??™ve had success as a mid major, so are used to being a hunting ground. We??™ve had 4 head coaches over 12 years, so are used to the churn. Fans wish coaches would stay, but fans always want loyalty when they don??™t always give it. Most know deep down that a coach??™s professional life is short, and they have few shots for financial security. Plus, who really wants a coach who is complacent and doesn??™t think he deserves more? Eventually, complacent coaches create complacent teams.
The enclosed column describes why Kent State fans were stunned, and a few like me, are bitter. All of the three coaches who left ahead of Geno picked up the phone, called our AD, told them he was leaving, and created a communication plan to the team. The team whose NIT performance got Coach Ford this opportunity, the one he referred to as his ???family???, found out on Twitter, and not even from Coach Ford on Twitter. Our team deserved better.
Rob Senderoff is the overwhelming choice by the team and fans for our next HC. We rightfully welcomed him back home after the Indiana fiasco, and he??™s done a great job. Good game strategist and magnificent recruiter, especially for the 4 and 5 spot. He??™s currently interim head coach and is locked in for a few reasons until late May. Odds are he??™s our guy.
I??™ll say a few nice things about Coach Ford. He is a very engaging and outgoing. He??™ll be very approachable. He??™s done nice things for fans who were sick or had some bad luck. We thought this was the nice guy we knew, which is why the manner in which he departed was so stunning. As a professional, he works hard and expects the same from his team. His team members graduate, and except for a few bumps here and there, stay out of off the court trouble.
We??™ll get over it and be fine, and so will Bradley. We are a little stunned at the amount of money for an unproven post season track record, but if ya got it, spend it. The poster who indicated that mid major state schools can??™t throw that kind of cash around for an ???up and coming??? coach is exactly right.
Good luck next season. People to your West will be watching.

There is part of the article linked above that I find to be extremely unprofessional from the Bradley point of view.
"A POUND OF FLESH
Bradley appears to be unwilling to meet the demands of the buyout in Ford’s contract, and that could force KSU to take legal action.
The university could expect Ford to come up with the entire $1.2 million the university believes it is owed. The contract called for a dollar-for-dollar buyout, and Ford had three years remaining on a deal worth $300,000 annually.
“We are going to have that expectation that liquidated damages are fulfilled,” said Nielsen. “Obviously, we have legal people who deal with our contracts, but our contract is very straightforward ... so we have that expectation.”
According to Nielsen, Bradley has not made an offer in the hopes that KSU would settle for less than $1.2 million."

On Ford, well if someone came to you and said we want you and we'll double your salary on a few conditions and one will be that you have to talk to your new players first before you do anything else. What would you do? Loyalty starts first and foremost with your family and I mean wife, kids, parents and siblings. So by taking this job he is setting up his family for life. I'm not saying the KSU players deserved less but sometimes the cards dealt are not the best ones. I wish the KSU players and the team a ton of success next year. It looks like GF has left the KSU program in better shape then when he arrived and that is the only thing you can ask of a coach that leaves you for a pay day."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

This is typical negotiating ploys between two sides.
Im sure BU/GF will say the language is ambiguous because of xyz....
and ksu will say no its not...
attorneys on the board....
Please comment more intelligently than me..
But to be fair, with all due respect, I don't care about KSU. Why pay any more money than we have to?
