Had Ben Jacobson been a head coach before? I thought he was promoted from asst.
As for Coach Ford, I think that the guy's track record speaks for itself. He comes in and almost instantly has great seasons. When met with only having three returning team members he goes out...recruits...and still wins the conference.
I get that he hasn't coached a game in the NCAA tourney - but last time I checked the game doesn't change too much once you make the big dance.
I agree that BU has just moved in to the modern ages and I'm glad to see them willing to pay out this much for what I consider to be a quality coach. Think he is a perfect fit for a program that wants to turn around quickly and could (potentially) see some player turnover.
I also understand that things could be rocky for a time while he gets acclimated and I'm not expecting to win the Valley next year - but I like that it sounds like Coach Ford is expecting to.

In reading some of the Kent State messages on their board, it's clear that they liked GF a lot and are upset that he left them, i.e., loyalty. However, they are most upset that their university does not have the financial means tor will not make the committment o compete for coaches or facilitites. Their bottom line in that they lost their coach to an inferior program who is now committed to spend what it takes to get coaching talent. I think we made a smart hire and now let's see if he can deliver. That's the way it works as there is no guarantees, but I like what we've done.

I think he can, but only time will tell. When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

I'm glad Bradley shelled out some serious dough and gave their basketball coach more then the president makes. Even though that seems almost hypocritical at an institution centered on learning, that's how the big boys play. Most big division one basketball coaches get paid more then the school's president. Heck, UConn has TWO basketball coaches that do.
I like the hire as well, but I save my opinion of him till I talk to him face-to-face and I'll save my opinion on how good a hire it is for maybe 3 years or so.

I assume Joanne's contract states she must be the highest paid employee.... Which means she just gave herself a VERY nice raise!! And if the team does well.... she's up to a million w/ his incentives... and they are buying out two other contracts (Jim Les and Genos/Kent State contract).
WILL the BSS money continue to flow in? I KNOW the Upper Bowl money will continue to flow in...WOW!!!It's not Business, It's Personal

Ya know what happens when you assume...
Oh wait..too late for you.
And by the way, everyone starts as a oh so lowly upper bowl pissant. But keep disrespecting those folks, that is very respectable.

Sorry to assume on this website.
Everybody knows what I mean (And sorry for stereotyping), but the BSS $20,000 to million donors are lower bowl between the baselines. I'm not one of those people. I'm outside the endzones and have a very low maint. Don't take this personal.... But the bills are paid between the baselines. Everybody knows that. It's not Business, It's Personal
